OOC: This RP centers around a large village in sixth century Europe. To get an idea of what the village looks like, check the pics on this site www.scotshistoryonline.co.uk/scara.html or any other pics of Skara Brae. The village is near the sea. Time period is early sixth century. The type of sword in this opening looks like an early 6th century viking sword. All in all, this is an open RP, take it wherever you want. IC: Cael stood on the shores of the beach, waves brushing against his bare feet. The water from the ocean felt cold against his feet, but he didn't care. He was dressed in loose, black pants and a loose, black linen shirt. The sleeves were a bit too long, covering the bottom part of his hands. He had shoulder length, dirty blonde hair, tied together behind his head, and blue eyes. The soft breeze blew his hair around a bit, including the part that was tied together. He was young, about nineteen. He was about average height and slender. Cael didn't look like he'd be able to wield the sword he held, yet he was. He held the sword, with both hands, at his side. He took a few swings, then stopped. He turned around and swung his sword in a downward arc. Immediately, Cael swung his sword back up. He continued this practice for several minutes, under the silver glow of the full moon in the sky.

Rossemikka's golden yellow single plaited hair danced in the wind as her deep blue eyes watched Cael practice from behind a rock. The bottom of her shift was covered in sand. But her eyes never left Cael and the way he moved the sword.
Mikka, as everyone called her, did this whenever she could sneak away. At the age of seventeen and the eldest lass in her family, Mikka knew her father was looking to make a match for her. But nothing could be further from Mikka's heart or mind. And most would think that she was watching out of her fondness for Cael, but they were wrong. She did not want Cael. What she wanted more than anything was to be standing in Cael's shoes right at that moment.
To learn how to use a sword. To choose her own life. To not have to sew, which she was really bad at, run a home and raise bairns. These were her heart's desires. But Mikka was a smart girl and knew what she wished would never be. So she would have to satisfy her heart by waching from afar and mimic the moves of the warriors in private.

After several minutes of practice, Cael decided to call it quits for the day. He could go on longer, if he had wanted to. If he got himself caught up in the training though, something easy for him to do, he'd be too tired for tomorrow's work. Though he was a warrior first and foremost, he had promised to lend a hand to the workers whenever he wasn't needed. This was something he'd been doing for the past month, helping the regular villagers prepare for the coming winter. Cael rested the flat end of the blade on his shoulder and looked up to the sky, sighing.

Mikka would wait til Cael left so he wouldn't catch her and she could sneak back to the village. At least that was the plan until Mikka's small nose started to twitch.
No don't sneeze, she thought to herself. But sneezes are not to be stopped and they are very demanding.
"Achoo," Mikka's sneeze was like a squeak from behind the rock. She cursed herself and asked the gods not to let Cael see her. If anyone found out, she wouldn't be able to watch anymore and her father would marry her off to the first guy who asked. That wasn't a pleasent thought.

Cael whirled around at the sound, sword held at the ready. He had thought he was alone out here tonight. It would appear as if he were wrong. A sudden thought, however, crossed his mind. Did I really hear something? He allowed himself to relax a bit. Even still, he decided to investigate. Slowly, softly Cael walked in the direction he thought the noise had come from, a rock close by.

Mikka held her breath and time seemed to stand still.
Please don't come over here. Just go away. she thought. I should just run before he finds me. But maybe he'll just...just...
"Achoo," Mikka sneezed again. Now she knew she was going to have to run, but she would wait until the last possible moment. So her callused tanned hands gathered up her shift and got ready to sprint.

Cael stopped as he heard that sound again. Now he knew for sure there was someone else here. He placed the flat end of the blade on his shoulder and called, "Come on out. You've already given yourself away."

Mikka sighed and slowly stood up. She moved out from behind the rock looking at the sand beneath her feet. Even slower she raised her saphirre eyes to his. Maybe he wouldn't tell anyone. Maybe he would just let her go.

"Mikka," Cael spoke, taken a back. He smiled at her softly. "So, you're the one out here." Then his smile disappeared. "What are you doing out here?" he asked with a more serious tone.

"I.. I was watching you practice." Mikka said. "Please don't tell anyone." She rubbed her sweating palms on the coarse green fabric of her shift. Even though the long sleeves of the shirt beneath her shift covered her arms, she still shivered a bit when the wind blew.

Cael's smile returned and he spoke softly, "relax. I'm not going to tell anyone. I am curious as to why you were watching though."

Mikka did relax. In fact, she relaxed so much that her normal spunk and guts took over.
"It's easier to show you than to explain, but I need to borrow your sword, Cael." Mikka said holding out her hand.

Cael considered her words for a moment. His smiled widened as he began to grasp what it was she wasn't saying. "Very well," he began, twirling the sword to where the blade pointed down. He then extended the sword to her, the pommel facing Mikka. "Show me what you've learned tonight."
