There, just ahead of him, was a deer staring off in the distance. Godfried readied his bow and took aim. Poor creature. It seemed oblivious to the fact that its life could end at any second. It actually seemed perfectly content with just staring off into the distance. Godfried pulled the string back further as he narrowed his eyes at his prey. This would make a nice meal for the village. The boy fired the arrow and smiled...then frowned. The arrow missed the deer seemingly by centimeters. As soon as it passed, the animal quickly bolted.
"You were distracted," Garr commented. his bow was on the ground, his hands rested on the top. "Yes" was the only response he got. Funny to think his son's return would unhinge the young hunter like this. Garr did not expect a cheerful reunion for the two. Actually, he half expected that was what Godfried was hiding. Still, this was far more taxing than he expected, considering Godfried was the best hunter the village had to offer. "What's wrong?"
"I don't want to talk about it." Godfried went to fetch his arrow. Afterwards, he took off in a direction, looking for another chance.

"I.." Arina fumbled and became silent again, continuing to stare at her feet. "I am fine," she managed, in a mostly methodical tone.

"I don't know how you can be." Carra said. "and I don't think you are. Not if you've seen…" she couldn't bring herself to say her brother's name or even acknowledge their relation. Then it occurred to her that her brother liked Arina and might be distracted by her. Which would mean Godfried would see them together and might turn his attention to her. So in her next breath, Carra said,
"you should come to dinner tonight."

Arina looked up, like a doe caught in the headlights. Her eyes darted from side to side as she attempted to find an escape route from this conversation and a polite exit, but there didn't seem to be, and no one rejected another's request in that manner. She nodded mutely, drawing her lips to a thin line.
"When?"
Her voice was almost too quiet to hear.

Diedrick stood as he finished his bath. He closed his eyes briefly and waved his hand around. As he did, the water on him seemed to fly off. It may be a bit of a fancy way to dry one's self, but it was still a fun trick. Once done, he redressed and started back to the village proper.

Adelle looked around the house. Dust was everywhere, as far as the eye could see. Granted, it wasn't caked. To her husband, there wouldn't be a problem at all. For her though?
There was a time when this would've been nothing at all. Just a simple spell and it'd be cleared up instantly. Now though...A thought occurred to Adelle. She raised her hand and concentrated. as she did, the dust started to slowly rise. Eventually it joined together in a small whirlwind of sorts. Everywhere the funnel traveled, until it picked up dust. Once done, Adelle snapped her fingers. In that instant, the dust was gone.
A smile touched Adelle's lips. It's still a far cry from making it all disappear with a mere thought, but it will do. For now. Adelle then set about clearing the whole house up of dust.
***
Godfried stood over the deer carcass in satisfaction. It may not have been as big as the one that got away, but it would work. Retrieving his arrow, Godfried set about carrying the deer. In total, Godfried and Garr managed to get a good size deer each. Both were now carrying it back home.
Garr had not pressed the young hunter for any details regarding his reunion with Diedrick. He figured that if the boy wanted to open up, he would. For now, he would leave him be.

"Just before dusk" Carra answered with a sweet smile. "It will be good to have the support of those who understand, you'll see." She gave Arina a quick hug before heading home with a smile.

Adelle was resting on the couch when the door open. She looked up and saw her husband and Godfried enter. Each carried a deer. "To the back," she said immediately, pointing in that direction. "And you can gut it yourself."
"Yes, dear," Garr said with a smile. "You go back to doing nothing."
"Nothing?" Adelle sat up and glared at her husband. With a wave of her hand, she conjured a bubble of water. She smiled in satisfaction at the look of complete surprise on Garr's face. In that instant, Adelle clinched her hand into a fist. As she did, the water promptly exploded in her husband's face.
"What devilry is that?" Garr asked, sputtering water in the process.
"That, my dear husband, is the magic you so lightly mocked this morning. It has come back."

Carra couldn't help but laugh from the door. Sure, she didn't put much stock in magick for a practical way of life, but that was hilarious.
"I'll help, Da" she said to make up for laughing at him. Setting down her basket, Carra came over and kissed her father's damp cheek. "Come on, Godfried. Oh, I invited Arina to supper." Carra added as she headed out back.

Adelle laughed at her husband's reaction. “Just so you know, that is but a mere fraction of what I can do. Also, to you're 'do nothing' comment. I have been cleaning up this house since you three,” Adelle motioned towards her daughter, husband, and Godfried, “left this morning. Even with my magic, it was still quite a chore.”
Garr glared at his wife. He wasn't really angry with her, though he didn't want to make that obvious either. “So, can I expect more laziness from you now?” he mocked.
Adelle held her hand up again and another water bubble formed in front of Garr's face. “Would you like another, dear husband?”
“Come, Carra,” Garr immediately said as he headed towards the back. “Thank you,” he added for his daughter's benefit shortly after they reached the backyard. As he set about work, he wondered how Godfried would react to his friend being invited. Garr himself was happy that the three could be together, in one area again, though he wouldn't admit it.

"Tell me about it, please?" Carra asked as they set to work on cleaning the deer that to be distributed. Some amongst the village, most would be preserved with salt, and a small portion would go to tonight's supper. "Tell me about the hunt."

Godfried was preoccupied with thoughts of Arina, so much so that he almost didn't hear Carra's question. "Hmm? Oh. It...could have been better. Missed a few shots that shouldn't have been a problem. Oh well, at least we got something."
"You were distracted, that's all," Garr pointed out. Watching Godfried's cringe, he added, "It's alright. Even the best of us get distracted. Carra, how was your day?" Garr finished, turning to his daughter.

"There is not much to tell." Carra said as they worked. "Chores and such. But when I ran into Arina in the market, she looked like she could use a friendly face and a hot meal. So I invited her over. It's been so long since she we had her around." she didn't mention her real motives and instead smiled like she had Arina's best interests at heart.

"How is she doing?" Godfried found himself asking, almost without quite realizing it. "With this whole...situation?"
Even now, he still had trouble outright saying that Deidrick returned, something that didn't go unnoticed by Garr. The elder hunter regarded Godfried carefully.

Carra tried not react to Godfried's question, but she couldn't hide the slight wince as she worked. Keeping her face neutral, she said,
"To be perfectly honest, about as well as the rest of us. Well, except for Mum."

Arina took a deep breath, trying to steady herself as she stood outside the tense family's door as the sun began to touch the horizon. Clearing her throat with a nervous glance around, she sighed and knocked on the door.
