Arina cast him a watery smile and then pulled back, returning to sit at the edge of the lake, facing away from him. She'd longed for that moment since the very first second in which he was gone, yet it seemed almost hollow with the hatred her heart kept telling her she should be holding.
"Welcome home, Diedrick," she said, softly. "I doubt you'll get many of those."

“I haven’t,” Diedrick whispered, his head lowered. “Arina…thank you.” He smiled to himself. He was happy that at least someone, outside of his parents, was willing to forgive and welcome him back. For a moment, he hoped that the rest would be.

Godfried smiled at the younger girl, the sister of his former friend. Though he felt Diedrick turned his back on the village, he did not hold such animosity for the rest of the family. He had too much respect for them, especially for Garr, to allow one person to taint his view of the entire family.
“Yes,” he replied to Carra’s question. “I had a little trouble getting out of bed this morning.” He himself did not want to mention that the cause of that trouble was Diedrick. In truth, he did not want his name to come up at all.

Carra had always liked Godfried. In fact she was quite jealous of the time Arina spent with him. But Arina was so nice and so upset over her brother, she couldn't be mad at either one.
"I've been working on my training." Carra told Godfried as they walked, hoping that he would be proud of her. "Last night I even..." Carra had been about to mention Diedrick but quickly changed her thought. "...I didn't miss a shot even in the failing light. Someday, I'll be ready to go on the hunt, too." She added. To hunt along side Godfried, that would be thrilling.

"That's quite impressive," Godfried said. He wasn't just saying that. It was indeed, impressive. He knew well that there were some hunters in the village that could not do something like that. Yet they were men...it was always something that bugged him, but any woman that wished to join the hunting party had to work twice as hard to be accepted, such was the elder's decree. "I'm sure even the Hunter and Huntress would be impressed."
OOC: I don't have actual names yet, but the Hunter and Huntress are basically minor deities that the village believes in. As the names imply, they are gods of the hunt. The huntress goes a bit further, also being a goddess of the forest as well as healing and lakes. She has a few parallels with Artemis, as far as hunting is concerned. As for the Hunter...I'll get back to you all on that one. These two aren't like the Greek gods, toying with humanity...they may not even make an appearance, maybe just get mentioned...

Carra's ears turned pink. She couldn't believe Godfried had given her such high praise. Talk of hunting was a welcome distraction.
"Do you think when you take over for father I could join the hunt?" She asked excitedly. They were just infront of her home when she stopped and looked at him with hope in her eyes.

"That," he started with a frown, "depends on the elders." He smiled before picking up with, "I'll tell you what though. When I take over, I'll do what I can to convince them to allow you. We can always use another skilled archer in our hunts."

Carra had been just setting her bucket down in defeat when he mentioned the elders. But when he finished, Carra grinned and threw her arms him in graditude.
"Thank you. I'll go get Father for you." She said before hurrying off inside the house. Once inside, she called out looking for him, "Father! Father, Godfried's here."

Godfried nodded once to thank Carra and remained outside. Silently, he watched her enter the enter the house. He wondered if Diedrick were in there and if Carra was going to end up waking him up too. Quickly he shoved that thougth away. "It doesn't matter," he said softly to himself.

Garr stretched as the morning sun started to wake him. He was enjoying this chance to sleep in...at least until he heard a book crash against the wall. He rose a bit and turned to see his wife's arm lower.
"Woman, what are you doing?" he asked with a frown.
"Trying to regain what I lost," Adelle answered
"Magic. There is no use for such a thing."
Adelle turned her head and smiled at him. "I bet you'd think differently if you were ever cornered by a bear, unable to draw your precious sword or bow, and your only chance of survival was with the most beautiful and talented mage in the land."
Garr smirked, "that is, if you ever got your so called power back."
Adelle playfully swatted at him. Garr caught her arm and pinned her to the bed. It was as he went to kiss her that he heard his daughter calling for him.
"Perfect timing," Adelle said with a smile.
Garr just groaned and got off the bed. Quickly, he changed and headed towards the door. He took one last look at his wife out of the corner of his eye. He watched as she grabbed yet another book of spells from nearby and opened it up to read. Gar then grabbed his sword, bow, and quiver by the door and left the room.

Carra smiled when she saw her father. She admired him so much, she couldn't wait to make him proud.
"Good Morning, Father." Carra said. "Godfried's waiting outside." She stood on her tip toes to kiss his cheek.

"You should head back to the town," said Arina quietly after several moments of silence. "Whereas I will not be missed, you most certainly will be."

Garr nodded to his daughter once, quickly. "How are your chores coming?"
***
"No," Diedrick said after a moment. "There are a couple things I need to take care of out here..."

"I finished the washing and the rest of my morning chores. I just got back from fetching more water." Carra said with a smile. "I can put together some food for you and Godfried to take with you if you like."

"Good," Garr replied. He turned his head to look down the hall and noticed Diedrick's door was open. Frowning, he asked, "Carra, have you seen Diedrick this morning?"

"Yes" Carra said darkly, her mood quickly changing. "He was suppose to get another bucket of water after he cleaned the stench off of himself, but that was a while ago, which is why I had to get more water."

"I see," Garr replied. He kept his voice neutral, though he kept his eyes on Diedrick's open door. In a moment, he turned his attention back to Carra. "Invite Godfried in for breakfast. We shall all have something to eat before we go about the rest of the day."
