Even as Diedrick was approaching, Arina was still singing very softly to herself, lay in that same spot with her toes in the lake. It had become a habit - lying there, under the sky that stretched on forever, and thinking about Diedrick. Sometimes hating him, sometimes hating herself for not hating him. But always thinking about Diedrick. Today, to her dismay, was no different.

As he came closer to the lake, he heard a soft voice. It sounded...almost as if the onwer were singing. The voice itself, on top of that, sounded familiar. Is that..? Diedrick picked up the pace a bit more. The voice was already coming from the direction he was heading. When he got there, he saw his suspicion confirmed. "Arina..." he said softly.

Arina jumped and stopped singing, her eyes flickering open. She sat up and looked back down into the water silently, not even looking at Diedrick. She didn't know whether to be happy or sad with his prescence.

Diedrick took her silence as her not forgiving him just yet. "Arina..." he whispered again. "I...am so sorry." He was not sure what to really say...just felt like he should say something.

Arina was silent for a moment longer, before it became too obvious that she was crying. As quietly as she could, but still crying. She balled up her fists.
"Sorry, Diedrick?" she said, voice wavering violently. "Sorry? Sorry means absolute shit! You could'v been dead! I thought you were dead!" she said, beginning to cry properly.

Diedrick was taken back by such a rebuttal. He felt as if a piece of him had just shattered then, as he came to realize how much he truly had hurt his childhood friend. This repenting will be much harder than I thought...but I have to try.
His first instinct was to wrap his arms around her and hold her close...yet he knew that would not be possible here. Instead, he just lowered his head. He did, after all, deserve this. In a way, he did turn his back on her, in favor of study. "Arina," he whispered softly, under his breath.

Arina sniffed as she calmed herself down, the familiar scratchy feeling of her dress brushing over her eyes as she removed her tears. She was silent for several moments, composing herself.
"You put us all through our own personal hells, Diedrick, and everyone will react to you in a way you probably didn't foresee," she said weakly, voice still teary. She was silent still for a moment longer.
"I missed you, Diedrick," she said, voice barely above a whisper.

Diedrick knew she was right. He didn't know what kind of welcoming he expected to get when he came home. What he has gotten so far though, he didn't expect at all. Diedrick lowered his head then, whispered, "I missed you too, Arina."

"Well you didn't act like it," stated Arina simply, pulling her knees up to her chest and resting her head on them.

Carra had just about finished her morning chores and Diedrick still wasn't back from getting the bucket of water. How useless he was. They would need that second bucket soon. She grabbed her one empty bucket and went to refill it. Maybe she would see Godfried this time. Carra certainly hoped so as she started back towards the well.

"But I did." Diedrick was silent for a moment. He was trying to form his next words carefully. "I...let my thirst for magical knowledge get the best of me. I was so caught up with it that, though I did miss you all, I did not think about writing anymore. Between writing letters and learning more and more, learning won out."
Again, Diedrick went quiet. In a whisper, he ended with "But that is no excuse for not writing. I see that now, see that it was selfish of me to put aside friends and family in favor of study. I'll...understand if you never forgive me."

Godfried had awoken early in the morning, yet stayed in bed. Though not as intense as it was yesterday, he was still angry at the return of his former friend. He had decided it was probably best if he waited for that anger to die down some more before getting out of bed and going on the hunt.
The main reason for that was because he, like every day, had to head over to the Garr household. As the master hunter's successor, he made it a point to be at his house every morning, fully prepared for the morning hunt. This time, though, Diedrick would be there. While his anger wasn't as great as before, he worried that it would fully return upon seeing him. As he remembered what he had done the day before, he made a mental note to apologize to Garr for it. Not out of any actual remorse, but more because it was his son that he had struck.
Some time had passed before he finally got himself out of bed. After a quick change of clothes, Godfried grabbed his bow and quiver, along with his short sword, and left his house.

Arina sniffed, obviously trying not to cry. "It's not enough, Diedrick," she said, "Not yet."
Then she paused and stood up, trying to smile. "But it's a start." then she took a few steps towards him and wrapped him in a gentle but very tentative hug.

Carra was walking back when she saw Godfried emerge from his house. She wasn't sure if he had seen her but he was heading towards her house all the same. Should she warn him? Did he know already?
"Godfried, wait up." Carra called as she hurried to catch up with him.

In all honesty, Diedrick was stunned when Arina hugged him. Instinctively, he felt his own arms wrap around her as he returned her hug. "Arina..." he whispered softly.

Godfried stopped as he heard a familiar voice call his name. It sounded, to him, as if it was coming from behind. Godfried turned around and saw Carra heading in his direction. "Good morning there, Carra," he said with a smile.

"Good morning Godfried." Carra anwsered when she reached him. "Did you sleep in? You usually come by much earlier."
That was not what she really wanted to say to Godfried. What she wanted to say was. "Godfried, Diedrick's come back. Did you know? Did you know he was coming? Does Arina know?" But she pretended everything was fine.
