When Mikka had been younger, she'd been just as sneaky and defiant. So she had dug out a small alcove next to the meeting house and had disgused it. She was quite a clever little girl. In addition to the alcove, Mikka had chipped away at the some of the stone so that she could hear voices through the wall. After years of work she now had a small peep hole. It was this that she looked through now and was only able to see Cael.

At the far end of the hall, a man stood. He was big, almost all muscle. His gray hair hung down to his shoulders. Some strands were tied into single braids, same with some strands on his beard. "Welcome Vincent, Cael." The man motioned for the two to take a seat, Cael by his side. Cael walked to the center of the hall and stopped. He looked the elder man in the eye and spoke. "Father...what's going on?"
The elder man regarded the boy for a moment. He seemed to be choosing his next words carefully. "We have received word that an invading tribe have arrived in our country." He turned his head away from the boy as he continued. "We have no idea what they want yet."
"Do we know where they are from?"
"Somewhere across the sea. That is all we know."
Cael thought for a moment before his next question. "What are we going to do about them?"
"Nothing as of yet. We will observe for the time being, learn whatever we can of them and why they have come."
"Yes...that is probably for the best," Cael said to himself. Though his mind understood the wisdom in that, his heart wanted nothing more than to chase these invaders out of the country. In silence, he walked forward, taking his seat by the elder.
OOC: In case it needs to be said, the man Cael calls father is the leader of the village and his adoptive father.

Mikka, in shock of what she heard and the fact that they were going to do nothing, tried to stand up where she was. Which under the circumstances was very foolish. She hit her head and cried out in pain. Then, realizing the noise she just made, Mikka gaspped, even further pointing out her location. Mikka wasn't sure if she should try to stay hidden or make a run for it. The way she was wedged in now though it would take a bit of effort to get out.
Maybe they wouldn't have heard her. If that was the case she'd make more noise trying escape. But if they had, her father would catch her for sure. So she looked through her peep hole to see if anyone had noticed.

The elder looked around, trying to spot the source of the sound. He wasn't the only one in the room trying to do so. The elder man, Merrick, looked down at Cael and nodde. Even without words, Cael knew what his father's nod meant: find the source of that sound. Cael rose and exited the hall, beginning his search.

Mikka only seen some of the elders reactions and that had been enough for her. She hadn't stayed to see the fact that they sent someone out to look or who that someone was. So in her haste, Mikka made more noise than if she would have stayed put and ended up tripping over her own two feet as the door opened right on to the person coming out. Not noticing on whom she fell, Mikka desperate to not be caught tried to get up and continue her escape.

Cael followed the sounds as they got louder and louder. It came from a small alcove near the hall. Curious, Cael headed over to it...only to be knocked down on his back by its occupant. His lip curled back in anger and he reached out to grab whoever this person was.

Mikka screamed as she felt a hand grab her leg. The confusion still blinding her as she tried to pull her leg free by kicking and grabbing at her assailant.
"Let go, let go" she said twisting her leg this way and that trying to dislodge the hand till finally she fell over. Her face hit the dirt and she could taste it in her mouth but it only made her more desperate as she tried to crawl away.

That voice...it sounds familiar...is it? Cael received numerous bruises from the intruder's resistance. He still held on though, until he saw the figure fall forward. He stood up and looked down at the girl...and immediately recognized her. "Mikka?"

"Cael?" Mikka said knowing the voice and looking up. "ummm.... this isn't what it looks like."
"Then what is it!" A large burly man came was standing in the doorway.
"Da!" Mikka said scrambling to her feet. He started advancing towards the mud and dirt covered slip of a girl that was his daughter. She started to back away frightened by his gaze.
"Rossemikka! how dare you? This shame you have brought on us." he raged.
"But Da...." she was cut off by the man grabbing her upper arm tightly. Tears started to form in Mikka's eyes from the pain.

"Let her go," Cael interrupted, his voice a deadly whisper. Father or not, he felt he could not just simply stand by and watch. His hand hovered a bit just over the hilt of his sword, ready to draw should it come to that.

Though the tears had started to form, Mikka wouldn't let them fall. Not in front of her father and certainly not in front of Cael would Mikka show any weakness.
"Look, lad. The lass is my girl and I deal with her as I see fit. And I'll not be havin' any soul tell me how ta be raisin' me own. I dinna care who your Da is." Mikka's father told Cael. "So get yer hand off yer weapon and let family matters be."
"Cael, you don't have to..." Mikka started, but her father gave her a good shake and she winced.
"Enough girl, git movin' we'll take care of this in private. And if'n yer worried about what it was that she be hearin' I'll find out soon enough and be back."

"I don't care that she's your daughter," Cael replied in the same tone, his hand still on the hilt of his sword. "You're being to harsh with her. She was probably just worried when she found out we were gathering. There's no real shame in what's she's done."

"Even as that mae be, lad. She isna yours ta be worrin' about. Yer na the cheif, so dinna act like it." Mikka's dad said and gripped Mikka's thin arm tighter as his anger at Cael grew.
"Cael... " Mikka started once more. Her father looked at her sharply and then tossed her aside.
"Git, lass. Yer not worth brawlin' in the streets fer. Git home and we be taken care of this later." He growled at Mikka, now even dirtier than before. With a last hard look at Cael, Rossemikka's father strode back into the hall.

It was all he could do to keep from lashing out right then and there at the elder before him. He was shaking with anger at the kind of treatment he witnessed. Cael's opposite hand was clenched to a fist, his nails almost breaking the skin on his palm. If a mere gaze could kill, the look on Cael's face would have slaughtered. He forced himself to calm down. It would not do for him to go into a blind rage here. That was something easier said than done, but after a few moments, the boy was able to accomplish that. Cael walked over to Mikka then and held out his hand. "Are you ok?" he asked as politely as he could. Even still, the anger was still evident in his tone.

Mikka took his offered hand and stood, still unwilling to let the tears stain her cheeks.
"I'm sorry, Cael. I hope your father can forgive me. Its just... when Vincent dismissed me so, i let my anger take over my better judgment." Mikka said apologizing for her actions and mentioning nothing of the scene Cael just witnessed. She was trying not meet his eyes. Her shame at her weakness and also being caught prevented her from being able to look at him. It was because she admired Cael so much that she hated for him to see her this weak.
"I... I... I should be getting home... my Da..."
