Henry nodded at Beth's words. A camp, with more people. His day was made. He smiled as he continued to rub Poppy's belly, his mind ticking over with thoughts. The camp had come to town for bullets and ammo, for something other than survivors at least. On his way in he could've sworn he'd seen a hospital. Any Doctor, such as the one they had at camp, would want medical supplies right?
Then George had come shouting about driving and the bible music and Henry lifted his eyes to the door with a frown. "So you were the one who almost ran me over?" A slight smile lifted the corner of his mouth and he turned to Beth. "I'm sure I saw a hospital somewhere South on my into town. Would medical supplies be handy? Assuming there's still some left?"

Brian couldn't help but admire the way these guys thought, they definitely seemed to have their act together and whilst he didn't agree that making so much noise was appropriate it seemed to have worked. He was all for going to a camp where there were more survivors, they'd have a better protection than this town could give them.
"If your gunna head to the hospital I recommend that we send most of the group back to the camp. Those not able to defend themselves are priority for getting to safety. If we have 3 or 4 guys who are able to run if need be then it'll be better than a group of 10 who might just get ambushed trying to defend the others." He also didn't want the guilt of a pregnant woman or a disabled dying whilst he was with them. Even if they were useless to fight off the zombies.

The man had the dirtiest wife-beater on, with splatterings of food and blood upon it. His muscular arms were tattooed to the point where his pink skin was barely visible; they included tattoos of eagles, the union jack, sexy women, anchors and other such things. His tracksuit bottoms were muddy and bloody also, with a pair of knackered Rebook trainers on his feet which looked like they let more water in than kept out. His shaggy ginger hair matched his scraggly ginger attempt of a beard. In his hands was a M15 rifle, and in his eyes was a determined look. Accompanying him were two other scruffy looking men – one whose skin was so dark it was almost pitch black, and another who could easily have been a body builder pre-apocalypse.
Naomi had spotted them walking down the road from a way off and had called both the privates in her camp over. Hall and Newell waited with their guns next to Naomi as the three men approached the camp with their superior weapons. It was tense and Naomi struggled to keep her nerve; she would have asked Simon to be with her, but he was helping around the camp. The rough-looking men and Naomi with the soldiers stood in the road about ten feet away from one another. She looked at the one in the middle, the one in the wife-beater.
“You get our radio message or something?” she queried, trying to sound inquisitive and friendly but not weak. Out of the corner of her eye she could see Newell staring at the body builder – both men were at a tense silent standoff, awaiting the other. Hall was reacting similarly, but just kept his nerve that little better.
“So happens we did Miss, but we’re not staying. Got a camp of our own just outside Garden City,” answered the middle man.
“Letchworth or Welwyn?” asked Newell who seemed to have a better understanding of the area than Naomi.
“Welwyn,” snapped the dark-skinned man who had looked like the least fierce of this bunch, but spoke in a rough intimidating way.
“Either way,” the man in the middle began, trying to defuse the tension a little “we’re here to speak to you about those medical supplies you mentioned on the radio.”

George walked into the church and took in the sights of all the people inside. He listened to Henry and Brian and then moved over to where Beth was. Lee was peering out the door now, crowbar over his shoulder just in case.
“Beth and Lee, I want you guys to take the majority of these people back. Same way we came here. I like your idea man,” George said as he turned to Henry “so I was wondering if you could lead me there. Poppy’ll tag along too, she’s my dog but she’s took a right shine to you.”
He walked up to Brian now and spoke to him.
“Your idea’s a good one. I’ll leave it up to you; you can tag along with the hospital crew, or head back to camp. Both are going to be far from safe, but those zombies aren’t going to listen to Christian rock all day. They’ll be back in town soon I reckon.”

Henry stood with a nod. "Sure thing," and he turned his eyes down to Poppy with a smile. "I always did want to get a dog," he muttered.

"I'm coming with you to the hospital. Figure I'll be of use." Brian then turned to Greg.
"What you doing?"
"I wanna go back to the camp with the others." Greg said.
"Alright, well were ready when you guys are then."

The tattooed bearded man told Naomi his name was Theo. Theo had travelled from his camp with these two bodyguards to keep him safe. He led a camp in the outskirts of Welwyn Garden City akin to Naomi’s camp. They didn’t want to move in with Naomi’s camp, nor did they want the burden of more mouths to feed if the survivors from Naomi’s camp came with him. Naomi understood, but the man was still a rough type. They all sat in the mess tent, weapons down now, and spoke in a more civilized way. The air was tense, but now that introductions had come across, it felt a little better.
“We got a lot of sick folk in our camp. I don’t mean bit, I mean sick. We were wondering of doing a trade for some of those medical supplies.”
Naomi scratched the back of her neck. She was thinking.
“That’s not for me to decide. I’d have to ask Doc Ryans.”
Theo and his men turned to each other, they didn’t say anything but did a nod to one another.
“Even better. Naomi; could we, one group of survivors asking another group of survivors, could we have your Doc at our camp for a few days? He could bring his supplies and check on our people himself. I’d bring my ill folk, but I don’t think they’re going to make the trip.”
She felt a lump in her throat. She did not want to deny these people medical help, yet she did not know them either. Ryans was her only Doctor, and he was a good one at that. The journey wasn’t going to be safe. She stood up and left the mess tent.
“Wait here. I’ll speak to him, see his verdict.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The group left the church. Poppy spent a little longer, and George investigated to find her taking a dump by the altar. He didn’t know the dogs religious views, but they were clear now. He held his cricket bat above his shoulder and looked to the group.
“Beth, Lee, take these guys north up the road. I’ll head with the others to that hospital, and I can meet you back at camp. It’s only just past noon now so we’ll be back early evening at the latest.”
The students nodded to one another. George and Poppy headed south with whoever was coming to help them find supplies. Beth and Lee took the remainder of the survivors and started on their way exiting the town. There were no zombies about for now, thanks to George’s plan, but they couldn’t waste time.

Heather pushed Charlie in his chair and followed Beth and Lee. Finally, she was going to get to see a doctor. She wondered where Mike and Howard were and hoped they'd make it out alive. They promised each other that they'd put priority in getting Heather to a doctor and them staying together came second. She prayed that they'd be able to find her and Charlie soon. Frank followed behind, continuously looking around to watch for zombies.

Henry walked alongside George but two steps ahead of him. He didn't know the area but he knew the rough direction in getting to the hospital. It would take several minutes and he decided to slow his steps in order to walk next to the guy and he said, "So, George right? What erm, what were you doing before this all happened?"

Brian followed the smaller group over to the hospital, it was nice the streets being this empty for a change. Normally he'd stick to the shadows crouching behind parked cars and going down alleys to get to his destination but this was much easier he had to admit. __________________________________________________________________
Greg was looking forward to getting to this camp that had been mentioned. The prospect of safety and resources that could be used for survival were highly appealing compared to what he was used to. He jogged a little to catch up to the pregnant lady, he had forgotten her name. He felt guilty but the church had been a little bit hectic and a lot of people had turned up in a short space of time.
"Hey, how are you doing?"

"Oh, I'm doing fine. Even better now I know there's a doctor." She found a lot of people tended to ask how she was doing these days. She figured that an honest answer wasn't what these people needed right now. "What about you?"

Doctor Ryans stood on a rain-slick precipice when it came to the choice on this matter. He found himself scared since these were rough looking blokes, but he couldn’t deny helping people. What if this camp did not have a doctor, they would have suffered greatly? He could stay at this camp near Welwyn for a few days and make his way back. Perhaps even a quiet word with Theo would convince him to merge the two camps of survivors.
After the doctor and Naomi conversed for a good part of twenty minutes, the pair of them walked into the mess tent where Theo and his men still waited. The two soldiers of Naomi’s camp were there too. In the time she’d been away, she could tell that nobody had warmed up to one another.
“Okay Theo. We’ll accept the supplies you’re wishing to trade. Doc Ryans will come to your camp for a week tops bringing his medical supplies. Accompanying him will be Seamus, one of the O’Connell lads. He’s just there to keep the doc company, keep him safe.”
Theo nodded, and outstretched his hand to shake Naomi’s. The deal would secure her camp with supplies and give some other survivors a little help. The Doctor seem okay with it, and Seamus was just packing some of his things to go along on the trip. Naomi’s stomach turned, but she agreed.
----------------------------------------------------
Beth could hear the group making small talk behind her. She and Lee lead the way, disposing of one or two zombies they met on the road. Some of them were running corpses, some were lurching about, some did not even have legs. Lee crushed one’s skull beneath his trainer, and the squelching sound was sickening.
They just kept walking. Beth would stop to let the group catch up or keep an eye on the mother or disabled child in particular. The journey was alright for now though. They could get back, feed the hungry, let Doc Ryans look at Heather. It would be good for these people.
-------------------------------------
They were walking at a leisurely pace. There were no walkers on the road, which they could be thankful for. George couldn’t help but feel like the hospital would either be empty of supplies or filled with zombies. Still, anything they could get for the doctor would surely help.
“Me? Electronics student. Me and the other two who came to the church were all students. We survived the first few months with just us guys, then we met the camp. Since the camp, life’s been a little easier. How about you, what you do?”
Poppy walked alongside the group, wagging her tail because she was still excited at the prospect of new people. She cosied up to Brian and rubbed her head on his leg before bounding around in circles around the group.

Henry nodded his head as he listened. Students. They were all students. He wondered how many other students made up this camp of theirs, or if in fact it was somebody else with some other life experience then reheated pizza for breakfast.
"I was visiting family up in Norwich, but erm, I'm from Billingham. It's a town just outside of Middlesbrough. I was a bouncer at a few of the local clubs and pubs." He decided that for now he could leave out the service with the busted knee that ended his career. "You guys in Uni then? Which one?"

"Well to be honest it feels strange now to be around Brian. We've been around each other for a few months now. He went around helping people get out of town when things turned bad, he hoped that everyone found somewhere safe that wasn't this place. Brian couldn't bring himself to leave though, he was always too attached to the place and he was always worried about leaving people behind. I guess I felt the same, I grew up not far from him but we didn't speak again for a few years until recently."
Greg knew he'd just said a mouthful but it was the truth. Brian could put a lot of people off getting to know him but he always meant well. _______________________________________________________
Brian only partially payed attention to the talk that was going on, he was slightly uneasy about the trip and was too focused on keeping an eye on the surroundings.

Naomi watched Doc Ryans, Seamus, Theo and his two bodyguards walk down the road which led out of Little Hadham. The trade had been more than generous, and it was only temporary that the doctor would be away from camp. Theo had poured out two backpacks worth of ammunition, food, fresh water, a couple of flash lights, batteries, and even a bowie knife which looked like it hadn’t been used yet. Some of the supplies, especially the ammo, was of high value to the camp.
She met up with Simon to tell him of the trade. He didn’t have much to say. He shrugged his shoulders, planted a kiss on her head and then walked around the camp making small talk with folks. Naomi felt torn over her choice. Doc Ryans was a vital cog in the machine which was this camp. Anything from a mild cold to life-threatening diseases, he was the man to rely on. He’d taken three quarters of his medical supplies to the other camp to help out, but what if trouble happened on the road? What if she’d doomed the people of Little Hadham.
Distracting herself would be the best cause of action. She decided to rummage through the supplies Theo had traded to the camp, sorting them into appropriate piles.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The hot August sun bore down onto the survivors travelling back to Little Hadham. Beth felt sweaty and sticky in the heat, whereas Lee kept requesting for a break. He was porky to say the least. Beth was lithe and athletic, so to slow down for Lee got a little annoying. Then again, with some of the survivors accompanying them being a little slow, it made sense to go at a strolling pace.
After his fourth or so request, Beth gave in to Lee’s relenting requests for a break. She opened her backpack and handed her water bottle out to folks who might want it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
George nodded along to Henry’s study, interjecting “yeah” every now and then to keep up a look of interest. It was just nice to see new faces out here. There was always a certain kind of joy when you bumped into someone else who had survived the ravages of the outbreak. They were in the same boat. They had experienced the horrors, but they were alive. Surviving is all that counted.
“Anglia Ruskin. I was supposed to be Cambridge-bound, but that was more pressure than I could live up to. Still, it was a fun few months before… this.”
George trailed off, and Poppy’s barking caught his attention. She had run a bit ahead of the group, so he dashed over to the dog to see what was up.
The road was similar to what they had been walking on – pavement on either side with overgrown bushes and trees, the odd cottage or house dotting the way. The sign “High Wych Road” was covered in branches, but could just be made out. A burnt out ambulance lay in the middle of the road; it was distinguishable, but so much of the chassis was burnt beyond recognition. Poppy wagged her tail before making her way down this road.
“Suppose we’re close now,” was all George could get out of his mouth. He walked after the dog, keeping an eye on the Labrador to make sure she didn’t go too far.

Henry nodded, following alongside George. He turned his attention to Brian, "What about you?" He figured that if he could get people talking then it would hopefully relax them a little and make this whole trip with strangers a little easier.
