"Never bothered with uni, didn't have the brain for it. Only just got through college. Always liked football growing up so I became a bit of a local super-star in joining the local team. Figured I'd end up playing for United one day if I trained hard enough." He sighed at the thought.
"Hopefully when this is over I can go back to it." He gave a slight smile at the idea of everything turning back to normal again.

George couldn't help but crack a little laugh, and then realized Brian might take it the wrong way.
"Not laughing at you pal. Beth had this face on her like she recognized you, that'll be why! Haha. Yeah, game of footy would be quite good - if we find one at the camp, I'm sure we'll have a game."
The three of them and the dog walked past the wrecked ambulance. Inside was a paramedic zombie caught beneath the weight of the supplies inside the emergency vehicle. It was no threat, it just wildly clawed forwards at the air. George did not spend long looking at it, continuing down High Wych Road.

Charlie had fallen asleep in his chair and Heather was thankful. None of them had gotten much sleep recently so it was nice to see him looking so peaceful.
"I think there's something about this place that has that vibe. You get attached to it. It's a shame that it takes something awful to happen before we speak to people we know. I only learned my next door neighbour's name when this whole thing started. We've lived next to each other for 3 years." She threw in a light-hearted laugh at how ridiculous that was.

Beth tried to coax Lee to move his fat ass. If the heavily pregnant woman could soldier on through this heat, then a chunky stoner of a student could do the same. Lee just gave her a v with his hand and carried on lolling about sat on a rock.
She walked through the survivors that were tagging along with them. The disabled child was asleep; hopefully it'd be at camp when he'd wake up, so it was a nicer environment. She thought her childhood was tough, not having certain toys for christmas and the like. Oh the things she took for granted.
She caught wind of Heather and Greg talking and it was nice that people were getting to know one another in these times. She spotted Frank who looked as nervous as he did when they had left the church. Something was wrong with the man, something made him so paranoid and nervous, but who wouldn't be in a world like this.
"Hey pal," Beth chimed as she walked up to Frank "how's it going?"

Henry smiled at Brian. At least somebody was happy with their life. Henry would've given anything to go back to his old job. Being a bouncer at clubs left him injured more times than he could count. Not to mention that people spat on him, kicked him, insulted him and had even bottled him once or twice. There was a scar that reached underneath his left ear and down towards his chin, three inches long, that reminded him of the night he'd spent in A&E because of some drunken twat.
As they passed the zombie in the ambulance Henry eyed it, holding onto the golf club in his hands a little tighter. He wondered how many would be waiting inside for them.

"W-w-w-we're all g-g-gonna die, aren't we?" Frank blinked at her, his lips quivering and his hands shaking.

Beth felt uneasy about the question, but could see Frank was just as scared as the rest of the group. Some people just bottled it up, turned it into something else like humour or anger. Frank was beyond that, and was a nervous lamb caught up in this hellish world.
"Once we get to the camp, life will be a bit easier. We've got people who watch the site twenty-four seven, so you'll be safe and sou-"
"Beth!"
Lee's voice cut through her words. She left Frank to his own devices, hoping her words had somewhat calmed him. She dashed to the fat student and he pointed down the road, the way they were meant to be heading. She covered her mouth.
The road bottlenecked into a tight corner. A pair of cows lay dead in the middle of the road, but the number of zombies hobbling over to dine on the animals was growing by the minute. They swarmed the carcasses, munching on the animals organs and tearing apart through the hide to get to the meat. They ate with ferocious zeal.
They were distracted, but the dead cows weren't an infinite distraction.
"We have to divert," Beth said to Lee "we can't get everyone past that."

Frank was really shaking now. They weren't going to get to camp, they were all going to die.
Heather breathed deeply as she saw what was ahead and quickly faced Charlie's chair in a different direction so if he woke up he wouldn't see it. A tear rolled down her face and she wiped it away, blinking to avoid others forming in her eyes.

"Well you gotta have ambitions in life but I'm gunna be all rusty if we have a game. So if you beat me its not cos i'm shit. I'll have you know I am a professional athlete." He laughed to himself, it was nice being around people that he was going to know for a while rather than just see them for a few days and then they'd be gone. __________________________________________________________________
Greg had been happily talking to Heather when he heard Lee shout. His blood ran cold when he saw them, he instinctively moved ahead of Heather and Charlie. It was just his protective instincts.
"If we can't go down the main road there a few side streets we can go down. It'll take us around half an hour longer but it'll keep us clear of this mess. Unless you have an idea in mind anyway."

Beth balanced Greg's plan in her head, but she shook her head signalling no.
"Can't risk wasting time, especially with the folk we've got with us. I'm going to take one out of George's book. Lee, Greg, anyone with a weapon, get ready."
She burst into a sprint with her weapon in hand. It was a 2x4 plank with some nails sticking out of one end in order to stab the bastards in the brain. It worked okay, but her true asset here would be her cross-country training. She just had to hope this went okay. She dashed to the other side of the dead cows; most zombies were still consuming the bovine, but others had caught Beth's scent.
THWACK! Her wooden weapon dug into the face of the first encroaching walker, and he collapsed with a few groans. The next one she managed to strike in the temple, and the one after in the back of the head. It took a few swings sometimes, but the first few were easy to deal with. When more of them began to arise and took pursuit after her, she had to turn on her heel and draw them away.
"I'll be at camp!" she called out before she ran out of view with a number of undead giving her chase.
Lee hated this. With George, at least he was in a car and had some protection. This could all go wrong for Beth if she turned the wrong corner or tripped up. There was no time for doubts. A couple of the zombies stumbled towards the survivors, whilst one or two remained feasting on the cows. Lee readied his crowbar to get the zombies.
--------------------------------------------------------
The hospital was in view now. It was a somewhat small private hospital, but miraculously it looked untouched by looters. That was rare, since medical supplies were critical out here.
Poppy sniffed around before pissing near the hospital's front door. The coast looked clear of undead, but George couldn't help but feel nervous. He grasped the cricket bat with a white-knuckle grip, preparing for anything and everything to lunge out at the party.

Frank held his bat tightly and charged forward. "AAAERRGGHHH!" He shouted as he bashed one in the head. It fell to the floor but Frank was grabbed by another and was unable to shake him off. The zombie bit into him and Frank screamed before he died. The zombie began to feast upon him and another joined in, ripping off chunks of his flesh and consuming them.
Heather looked away and scrunched up her eyes. She couldn't bare this.

The nutter's jump into the fray had ended quicker than Lee could have anticipated. This way it was easier to dispatch of some of the undead though. As they munched on the nutter's organs, Lee bashed his crowbar into their skulls. They dropped like flies, but it was a close call when one of them swung for Lee's leg. Some remained, but Lee thought Greg would deal with them soon enough.

Henry clutched the golf club tighter to his chest. He checked the surroundings, wary of the lack of zombies outside. He took a few cautious steps towards the front door and peered through the glass doors. Inside there were a few zombies. Not enough to cause fear but enough to be disposed off easily.
"We got a few walking and crawling," he said, turning his eyes back to the rest of the small group.

Brian moved cautiously up to where Henry was and peered in.
"Should we try and take them or sneak around? I don't fancy making too much noise in case we attract too many. We might die or not be able to get out with as much stuff if we do this wrong." ______________________________________________________________
Greg didn't even have a chance to react before Frank died but he had now joined Lee in taking out the zombies that were left. He had a close shave or too but he was moving around enough to pull the zombies away from each other so he could kill them. It probably looked like a weird version of ballet.

Lee was thankful of Greg’s help. And Frank’s too, although he had died so quickly in the process. They killed the remaining zombies and then finished off those who were munching on the dead cows. The rotting bovine carcasses would probably attract further zombies over time, but it was a brief respite. They had to keep moving, had to get to camp. Beth was missing now, one of the Sawbridgeworth survivors was dead, and they hadn’t even found ammunition like they had been sent out for. And George was still southbound; that would mean he’d probably cross this path too, encountering the undead feasting on the rotting beef. At least they were a smaller group.
“Okay,” Lee said in his most authorative tone, but it was in his casual laidback voice “that did not go swimmingly. We have to keep on though. Let’s get a move on folks.”
He began walking, but the smell of rot was so strong he gagged a little. He just hoped both Beth and George were having better luck.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
George peered through the glass.
“Christ, it’s dark in there. I’ve got a torch, but these kinds of places might have a backup generator.”
He opened up his backpack, and chucked the small torch towards Brian. It was a Maglight, a brand which George had used so many times on camping trips. Using it to scout out the insides of a hospital for supplies would be different.
“I’m going to do a sweep of the outside and look for a generator; if I can get it on, you’ll know. Henry, Brian, start slowly sweeping through the first corridors. I don’t want us wasting time, so if you can make a headstart on this place that’d be good. Don’t use your gun if you can help it.”
At this point he knelt down and looked at the dog. Poppy’s eyes lit up, and she started licking George’s face and wagging her tail.
“I’ll take Poppy, and I’ll meet you back here as soon as. If I get into trouble and I can’t get back to you here, meet you at that church from before.”
