Jackie caught the amulet. All she wanted at that moment was to be alone with her grief. To cry like there was no tomorrow and to pour her heart out. But with such a heavy heart, Jackie wasn't sure she could move. So she listened, not saying a word. Instead she held on to the amulet, holding it close to her heart as if it would bring Aunt Genny back.

"Look, I... I know this is hard. But I don't know how the pieces fit together, I just know we all are pieces, and this is what Genny intended. She wouldn't have left you if she didn't think you'd be okay..." James said, feeling more and more uncomfortable with his situation, his charisma leaving him. "Look. Do you need a place to stay? You're free to stay with us, there's a spare bedroom."

"No, I have a place." Jackie said stoticlly. "I... I think i need to be alone. Perhaps we can talk about all of this tomorrow...." Jackie's voice trailed off.

James nodded. "I understand, Ms. Star."
"She wants you to be happy. You need to use the amulet. Then you'll know." said Kira, piping up from the corner. James shot her one of his "shut-your-mouth" looks, and headed for the attic door.
"Come on. We cant stay here."

"Actually, you can there's plenty of room" Jackie said before she could stop herself. "I think you're right that Aunt Genny wants us together. so you should stay I just want to be alone in a room for awhile."

James paused, then looked up. "Thankyou. Do you have any rooms that... Don't have anything valuable in them?" he said tentatively, glancing at Kira, who had found a moth to chase and was taking great pleasure in doing it, leaping around the attic and giggling.

Jackie looked at Kira. She gave James a small smile.
"Yes, downstairs, follow me" She said striding to the door, stopping only briefly on the spot where Genny had been. Jackie led the way back down the stairs and switched on the old-fashioned electric light blubs. Walking down the hallway Jackie stopped infront of one door and openned it. The room was pretty plain and devoide of anything of value. "Its only a single bed so your sister can sleep here. And you can have the one next to it."

"Okay, that sounds good," said James with a smile. Kira looked tentative.
"Go on, Kir. Give it a try. I bet it's comfier than the bed in the apartment."
Kira stared at James with her large amber eyes for a moment, before taking a few steps into the room and then falling onto the bed, giggling again, then curling up into a ball on it.
"Comfy comfy comfy," she muttered dozily. James smiled and shut the door on her quietly.
"One of the only benefits. it's very easy to get her to sleep."

Jackie gave him a smile. She regreted her hasty words earlier.
"I'm sorry, for what I said before." Jackie said. The hallway seemed alot smaller now that it was just the two of them. Hastily she opened the next door. The bed was a bit bigger and old still photographs sat on the bedside table. She knew the photo well, because as a child she had wondered at them. The frames only held one photo and it seemed to be on paper, not a screen like they had now. "I hope you'll be comfortable."

James smiled and stepped into the room. It had the kind of feel he liked; archaic, solid, with a story. He turned around once, examining the room, and ended up facing Jackie. His smiled sort of faded into a more serious expression.
"I'm very sorry about what happened back there. I know you must feel quite lost and... Im not quite sure what to say to you, but you're more than welcome to uh... you know. Come to me if you feel upset, or angry, or just want to talk. I know we got off to a bad start in the beginning, but, I'm very very here for you now," he said with a quaint smile and a nervous stance.

Did the awkwardness never end. Jackie found herself wishing James' sister was still with them and not asleep in bed.
"Thank you," Jackie said, not knowing what else to say. "Well, ummm, I'll be off then." And before the moment could get any weirder Jackie hurried off to the end of the hall and into her room.

James blinked rapidly, trying to process how fast she'd left, then shrugged, sighed and sat down on the bed, pushing the door so it was now only ajar. He lay back, eyes on the ceiling, and let his mind wander through everything that had happened, everything he'd been told, and just how incredibly fucked up it all was, until he fell asleep.

Jackie lay on the bed in that same manner but sleep did not claim her until she had shed all her tears. The morning came too soon for Jackie as the sun refused to let her sleep more. So still in her clothes from the day before, Jackie wandered down to the kitchen in desprate need of coffee.

Shortly after Jackie had gone downstairs, Kira leapt out of bed, again in a state of giddy happiness, and bounded out of her room and into James's. Spotting him, she angled herself and.... POUNCE! She leapt on him in a fit of giggles. However, behind her a resounding crash echoed of a photo falling to the floor. The sounds and feels of both woke James with quite a start and some swearing.

Jackie looked back upstairs but couldn't be bothered until she had her coffee fix.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The photo that had fallen now lay on the ground, seprate from the broken frame. The color photo showed a teenage girl with dark hair, a girl about 12 or 11 with fire red hair, and a little boy also with dark hair. The three children were playing and wearing paper party hats. Cake covered most of their clothes and faces on the back of the photo was a worn faded handwritten note.
