Kira nodded in an indignant way, and the crystal's yellow mass grew dark again, unbeknowst to everyone. Unable to contain her outcry at the only part of the previous conversation that was burnt into her memory, she clenched her fists, and two things happened rather instantaneously.
"But I'm NOT SICK!" she shouted, and as she let out her anger, the crystal in James's that was yellow eminated a thick, feirce darkness in rays that spread about the room like horrible tentacles, thrashing at any light force it could find and making the room pitch black.

Jackie screamed as the darkness enclosed the room. She couldn't see anything and fear gripped her heart as she couldn't hear anyone else.
"Aunt Genny! Aunt Genny, where are you!" Jackie screamed into the dark. She tried moving forward but banged her leg into something and fell to the floor. Crawling this time, she tried again to move towards the last spot she had seen Aunt Genny. But the darkness seemed to be holding her back, as if it was a solid and she couldn't move through it. "Aunt Genny, answer me!" Jackie begged.
In desperation, Jackie kept trying. Very slowly, she was able to inch her way along the floor until she touched something soft and cool. Tracing her fingers over the object, Jackie knew at once what it was. She seized Aunt Genny's hand in her own and squeezed.

"KIR!" cried James, pushing his way through the darkness with a great lack of ease. On his way, however, he stumbled over Jackie and fell to the floor, crying out as he did. Kira then began to cry, hollowly, sobbing and curling up into a ball in a very catlike fashion. And, as she did, the darkness lifted slowly, glowed yellow, and settled back to the soft darkness of the unlit attic, where all that could be hear was Kira's quiet sobbing.

Jackie groaned as James tripped and then fell on top of her. But she refused to let go of the hand she held. Her eyes slowly adjusted to the dim room, now only lit by the moon outside. As she did, her heart seemed to stop. She didn't hear Kira's crying, or notice if James' was trying to untangle himself from her. All she knew was that aunt Genny was laying on the floor, her breaths short and labored. Jackie couldn't stop the tears as they met eyes. Genny gave her a weak smile.
"He's letting me go" Genny managed to whisper. "my job is done"
"Noo, Aunt Genny, don't leave me" jackie cried.

"Shit," snapped James as he stumbled away from Jackie and scrambled to his feet, looking down on Genny with a look of very deep concern. "Shit," he muttered again, stepping over to the other side and crouching down next to Genny, and placing his fingers against her throat to check for a pulse.
"James... what did I do..?" came the quiet murmur from the other side of the room. James ignored her and focused on Genny, muttering more obscenities to himself.
Across the room, Kira looked up, stopped crying, and set her eyes on Jackie. "You have to let her go," she said in a very soft, friendly voice. The crystal, which had been dropped on the floor in the confusion, began to bathe the room slowly in a white glow.

"No! No, no, no" Jackie sobbed. Genny looked at James.
"Someone knows ... truth" Genny gasped. "I've been ... forgiven. You remind me of..." Genny stopped speaking as she took a sharp breath. She looked back at Jackie. "i'm sorry...."
"Please" Jackie cried as Genny's hand seem to slacken its grip on Jackie.

The white glow in the room rose slightly as Kira stood up and walked over to James and Jackie, and sat at Genny's feet, looking rather calm and slightly subdued. "You need to let her go," she said again, just as calmly and sweetly as she had the first time.

Jackie was shaking as sobs racked her body. Aunt Genny was the only mother Jackie had ever known. She just didn't know how she'd live without her. Genny's hand fell from her own as Genny reached for the fallen amulet, her hand coming up short and falling limp. Genny's breathing slowed to the point where it was barely even there.

Kira scrambled quickly towards the amulet and pushed it gently into Genny's hand, smiling softly with her lips (as smiling with her teeth normally frightened folk). James, although horrified by Genny's state, could barely take his eyes off his "normal" acting sister, and how ironic it was that it was only since he'd gotten her into this incredibly surreal scenario.

Genny smiled at Kira as her last breath left her body. She lay there unmoving, gone from this world. As Jackie, crying, touched Genny, her body vanished leaving only the amulet. Jackie hugged herself and hid her face in her arms as a pain in her heart washed over her.

"It's yours," said Kira, nudging the amulet towards Jackie. "It's for you."
James, however, stumbled back from where Genny had been, pushing himself away whilst still sat on his behind. "Wha-... What just happened? I don't... I.. Shit."

At the sound of Kira's voice, Jackie looked up anger in her eyes.
"This your fault!" she screamed jumping to her feet. "You screamed and then that black stuff killed her!"

Kira recoiled backwards, and the white glow that had started to light the room died down as quickly as it had started. "But..."
Noticing the tension, James stood up. "Look, woah. Right. This isn't anyone's fault, and we can't blame each other. I think... And I don't know if I'm right or wrong... But I think that Genny needs us to stay together. She's gone. We were all here when she went. But only I know the full story and only I can tell it to you. That is, if you want to hear it, or if you just want to yell at my sister, who barely even understands what happened."

Jackie was about to say something but thought better of it. She moved over to one side of the room as her grief filled her. Pouting like a spoilt child she sat in a dusty old chair.

"Catch," he said, throwing the amulet after her deftly, and then throwing the yellow amulet to Kira.
"Look. I can't begin to imagine what you're going through," he said, directing his attention to Jackie. "The closest thing I've got to any family is Kir, and if I lost her, I really don't know what I'd do. So I am so incredibly sorry for your losses. But I think there is something to be gained from this, and I think that's what Genny wanted. So, I'm going to tell you everything Genny told me, and why I came here for her help."
James paused, and then he began his long and arduous story, starting from his arrival in New New York and working forwards, explaining his why's, where's and who's. All the way through, Kira listened intently, as if she had a new layer of understanding that she'd never had before.
