Kyle's eyes turned to the door as T'Palla entered and made to stand next to the podium. He double checked that his phaser was set to stun and lifted his eyes again when the Captain entered. A nod in the man's direction and Kyle adverted his eyes, before his attention was caught in a slight frown.
Why he noticed it was something that confused. But his inner mind couldn't help but notice that the Captain had a nice ass.
Chiding himself he turned his full attention to the transporters as they buzzed into activity.
The Romulans appeared and two shots had Smith and Jones falling to the ground, unconscious and dead. "Open fire! Stun only!" He fired off a few shots. He struck two Romulans, a third and then the fourth fell.
After a moment of silence he lifted his head to look around the room. Bishop checked both Smith and Jones and turned back to Kyle with a shake of his head. Dead. "Captain, we've got two men down. All Romulans are unconscious."

Barnes stood. "Well, I tried." He walked around to the front of the podium; "Get these men off the platform so we can beam the last one up. Whoever doesn't need to go to the medical bay gets taken straight to the brig."

Kyle ordered more security men to the transporter room to take the Romulans either to the brig or to the medical bay. Bishop and Turner were ordered to help with this whilst he remained behind to deal with the last Romulan.
When it was beamed aboard he wasted no time and shot it with his phaser the first moment he got. Chances couldn't be taken again. Within seconds it was on the floor unconscious. "I'll take this one to the brig myself Sir," he muttered as he put his phaser away.
Within minutes he'd had the Romulan placed in the brig along with the others that he and the rest of the security team had stunned. "Turner, Bishop, stay here and stay guard."

Captain's log. Stardate 1473.9: We discovered a Romulan escape shuttle in bad shape going through Federation space and their commander refused to answer our queries and continued to pursue their unknown course. We had no choice but to beam them aboard and their arrogance and hostility caused two of my men to die. Three of the Romulans are in sick bay and are not yet conscious. The other three are being held in the brig until I can question them further.
Barnes sighed as he finished entering his log in the ship's computer. He sat in the briefing room going over the day's events in his head. Eventually he leaned over to his comms panel, "Captain Barnes speaking. Can Faulkner, Sumners, T'Palla, Tralek and T'Vara all meet me in briefing room 1 please?" He leaned back on his chair, pushing his hand back through his fringe.

Kyle nodded to the men guarding the Romulans in the medical bay and left. In the corridor he allowed his mind to think over his previous thought. A frown fixed itself onto his features.
He couldn't allow such thoughts to overcome his mind, especially whilst he was on duty. And the Captain? Of all people. He shook that thought away. Part of him wondered where that thought had come from. Another part put it down to a long time since he'd done it, with anyone. He wasn't one to actively seek a warm bed with someone at night, but that didn't mean he didn't have needs and desires that needed to be met.
In the lift he gave the order for it to move and waited, mind still weaving with confusion. He'd done it with men before. Not many compared to the number of women, but he had. Not many people would guess he had either with himself being seen as very manly, the kind that only went after women.
A sigh escaped him as he left the lift and made his way to the briefing room. He needed a woman, he told himself. A good woman to get whatever it was out of his system.
Biting back a yawn he moved on and entered the room to see Captain Barnes. 'Great,' he thought. "Captain," he nodded his head with a mutter and took a seat a few chairs down. He forced himself to think about one of the nurses within the medical bay.

Faulkner had been busy trying to locate the Romulan ship from which the escape shuttle had come. He'd managed to find it on the scanners after some searching, and was ready to fill the Captain in on it by the time the request for the gathering came through the comms.
"Dawson, maintain holding pattern..." he said as he stood and stepped into the turbolift: "Briefing One..." he spoke, the lift sped down to the briefing room: "Sir..." he said respectfully as he stepped out of the lift into the room: "Summers..." he nodded to the Security Officer.
__________
T'Vara had treated the Romulans on arrival as ordered, fixing them up and documenting injuries; following all procedures and then making sure that they were guarded in case they came round and started any trouble, even disarmed she wasn't taking any chances.
She had also done what she could following the Human customs for preparing their dead for the two deceased security crew; making their bodies look as peaceful as possible for the benefits of the other crew.
By the time the order for the meeting came through, she had just finished up her work: "Make sure they don't cause any trouble..." She ordered two security men in the med-bay: "Inform me when they regain consciousness..." she said to one of her medical crew, then exited the bay and took the lift up to the Briefing Room: "Captain, Commander..." she nodded in acknowledgement as she entered the room: "Chief Summers..." she looked to Kyle as well.

"No T'Palla and Tralek?" Barnes spoke once the others had entered. He was relieved. Between sending his message to the rest of the ship and people arriving he'd received orders from the ambassador that he'd rather leave until after this meeting.
"That ship came from something bigger." He looked up at his crewmen. "We are to be prepared for whatever we are going to find when we pursue the co-ordinates I intend to get from our prisoners. That is if Faulkner hasn't got them already." he smiled.
He stood now, looking away from his crew and trying to ignore the eyes burning the back of his head.
"It's a big mission, especially when we're only reaching the border of federation space. Some adjustments will be made back at base before we set off; they want to assign new men to this ship to help us." He turned back to face everyone. "Nothing you need worry about, though." he assured.
"So," he started, sitting back down. "First thing's first, how they doing in sick bay, doc?"

Faulkner looked to the Captain as he addressed them all, detailing what they knew about the Romulans and their next course of action. He returned the smile to Captain Barnes: "I was able to find the location of the ship; I have a course set out, ready for your approval." he replied: "Though I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to see if we can get any additional information from our prisoners." he added.
So they'd be heading back to base first? It made sense, Command would probably want the Prisoners at a more secure location than a frontline vessel, and they would be able to return the bodies of the fallen security men to their families.
T'Vara listened silently as the Captain spoke to them, her face impassive as the various details were discussed. If they were heading back to base before going after the ship, she could have the medical supplies used on the Romulans replaced, and they would be back up to full stock again.
She looked to Barnes as he spoke to her: "Four remain unconscious, the other three are awake, but bound to their beds; I ensured that all prisoners are restrained, and there are guards, in case of any eventualities." she replied, mentally ticking off points as she made them: "All injuries and treatments are fully documented in my report." she had already sent copies to the Captain and Commander as per protocol before coming to the meeting: "But I must bring to your attention something that may be pertinent to the search of their primary vessel: One of the prisoners is in isolation, suffering from radiation exposure. I believe that this must have come from the main vessel: if it was due to the shuttle, they would all be suffering from it." she explained.

"Hmmm...well make sure he stays in isolation. As for the others, see that whoever is well enough is taken to the brig immediately. I'm not risking anything."
He ran his hands through his hair and looked down at the table as he thought.
"If we're going to question these prisoners we best do it before we get back to base, the ambassador is bound to want to take them straight from us. I want everybody on form. Sumners, see that the prisoners are well-guarded when they're moved. Let me know when they're secure. Me and their commander will be having a little chat."
"Set a course back to base for now," he looked at Faulkner, "but go the long way around, ok?" he winked. "You're all dismissed."

Sumners nodded. "Of course." Standard secure and transport he could deal with. He shoved his chair away and left the room. He made sure to follow T'Vara to medical. In the elevator he caught her up and thanked whoever for the lack of others. "Hey Doc, can I ask a favour?"

"Of course, Captain; I'll keep you informed of any changes." T'Vara stood and saluted sharply, turning on her heel and making for the lift, noticing Summers joining her: "Medical." she said, and the lift was on it's way.
She opened the comms to the Medical Bay: "Hanson, prep our three conscious guests for transportation to the brig, but keep them restrained until Chief Summers and I arrive." she ordered.
She then turned her head as Summers spoke to her: "What do you wish to ask?"
__________
"Aye, aye Sir." Faulkner replied with a wry smile, saluting before heading into a lift himself: "Bridge."
A few minutes later he stepped onto the bridge, and slid into his seat, bringing up his screen and plotting a course back to base, making sure it would give the Captain adequate time for his questioning of the prisoners: "Dawson, new heading." he sent the route to her screen: "We're heading back to base, via the scenic route." he leant back in the chair: "Get us underway."

Sumners nodded his thanks and got right to it. It had been weeks of interrupted sleep and if the Doctor had something that could help, well it would make his life a lot better. "You don't happen to have anything that could help me to sleep and stay asleep right?"
Orders could wait whilst he got something to fix his sleeping.
________
Dawson grinned in understanding, "Yes Sir," and she keyed in the route. No doubt the Captain wanted to delay their trip back to Command. Some days she enjoyed just those little taunts to base. It made life a little bit more fun. "With great pleasure." And soon they were taking the scene route back to base.

What is taking those two so long?
His thoughts were interrupted by T'Palla and Tralek entering the room. "Ahh you've joined us at last, please sit." Barnes spoke, before they had chance to.
They looked at each other before sitting on opposite sides of the table. Barnes stood and looked out of the window at the stars.
"Sir?" Tralek questioned.
"I was really looking forward to working with the both of you again." He turned to face them now. "But, the ambassador has different ideas. For now at least, he wants you both back on the station."
T'Palla opened her mouth to speak but Barnes spoke again first, "I'm sorry, I tried my best to let you stay but it's his decision at the end of the day. It's not forever, and I'm not happy about being assigned two strangers when I'm about to face God knows what! We're on our way back now, and until then I expect us all to act in a professional manner. You're both dismissed."

T'Vara turned fully to face Summers: "You're having trouble sleeping; how long has this been going on?" she asked him, looking at him critically, noting some bags under his eyes and a little bloodshot tinge; it certainly appeared he wasn't getting enough sleep.
"I do have several items that can aid with sleeping, however, I would need to determine the cause of the sleep deprivation. Do you have any ideas what may be causing it; something affecting you perhaps?" she enquired.
__________
Faulkner consulted his screen, calculating a course for the Romulan Ship's location from the Starfleet Base, ready for once they departed again to investigate the ship.

Internally Sumners groaned. He would rather just have the meds and go then explain to the Doc the nightmares and where they come from. It was one memory he was still trying hard to get rid of. He didn't anybody trying to analyse or understand his dreams and his nightmares. "No," he lied. "I just can't seem to stay asleep. A few weeks it's been going on I guess."
