"And what do you know?" Genny asked looking straight at Link. Link was surpirsed that she had been addressed.
"I... Ummm... I know that Emily is Auron and Cassy's daughter. That they were mom and Uncle James' friends. They were taking care of Aunt Ki at the time they were ... that they died. Then Uncle James took Emily to be raised by other people. But That was beforeI was born."
Genny nodded and turned back to Emily.
"Emily, i will anwser everything I can. But as Link knows you have to ask the questions otherwise i don't feel you're know the anwsers."

Emily nodded and looked up at Genny tentatively. "I know I'm vague..." she said, wringing her hands nervously, "But... Could you tell me what happened? I just want to fill in the gaps regarding it as a sort of hazy whole before I start asking for specifics - they'll just confuse me at the moment."

"Auron and Cassandra Prince were the guardians for a girl named Kiara. Jade Star-anise, Link's mother had found the girl and saved her from her mother. Kiara eventually took the Staranise name." Genny started. "They also lived with Auron's sister, Ariana. After you were born. Kiara was possessed. She ended up killing Ariana and then Cassy. Auron a few weeks later tried to attack Jade and Kiara defended her, killing him in the process."
"Thats not true!" Link cried as she jumped to her feet. "Aunt Ki wouldn't hurt anybody!" Tears sprung from her eyes and she ran downstairs. Genny sighed and shook her head.

Emily watched noiselessly as Link ran away, but didn't stand up. She just turned her head slowly back to Genny. "So.. is Ki downstairs named after the Kiara you just said? And why? And possessed by what? And what made her do it?"

"Yes our little Ki is named after that Kiara. As to why I don't try to understand the workings of a mother's mid when she is naming her children. But ade named all of her children for the people she loved most in her life. Unfortunitly, I have not been able to uncover that mystery. At times, Kiara is the most loving and generous person you could ever meet. And other times, she is quite unstable." Genny shook her head. "It has something to do with a curse from her mother's mother." She held out her hand for Emily to take. "Emily, do you understand why I cautioned James against raising you and telling you all of this?"

Link ran all the way downstars still crying into a room full of adults. Jade and Logan both went to her. She let her father hold her as she cried. Jade was too concerned to worry about it.
"Its not true. She's lying." Link cried.
"Whats not true, honey? Who's lying?" Jade asked as Logan held Link close and petted her hair.
"Aunt Genny! She said Aunt Ki ...she said she killed Emily's family. Its a lie! Aunt Ki would never hurt anyone." Link held on to Logan for dear life. Jade looked at James just as he started up the stairs.

Emily looked up at Genny's hand silently. She didn't know what to say, or indeed what to do. She mused, slowly. She played the Kiara character through her mind, thinking, slowly slowly. She still didn't know if she'd wanted to know before or not. She could see both sides of it, but all she could focus on was the upset and the hurt and the anger surrounding everyone in the house because she hadn't known before. She kept her hands around her calves, until she heard the familiar footfall coming up the stairs and scrambled haphazardly to her feet.

Genny sighed. She threw a glance at the door. The knob shook but the door did not open. The shaking stopped and a knocking started. She turned back to Emily.
"I'll let him in if you want to see him. Otherwise he cannot disturb us. It's your choice."

Emily looked from the door to Genny and back again. In the back of her head, she tried to resent James, but all she could hear inside her brain was his voice cracking as he described her as his daughter. She looked at Genny and nodded silently.

Genny smiled and the door opened suddenly. James who had come to cll Genny a hypocritc, lost his words when he came face to face with Emily. After the library, and what she must know now, James wasn't sure how to act. Which in itself was as odd as him getting upset. He could only look at her. It hurt seeing her puff eyes and tear stained cheeks and knowing he was the reason that at some point she had been crying.

Emily looked at James then quickly looked away, realising how stupid she must look from how much she'd been crying. She sat back down on the floor, slowly, staring at the wooden loftboards. She wondered what he was thinking about her, and whether or not she should hate him for hiding things from her.

James felt helpless. He never had a daughter before and now when he wa so close, he had messed everything up. Maybe he had been around humans and their mistakes too much. It certainly seemed to be rubbing off on him.
Genny gave the two an annoyed sigh as she stood. James was still watching Emily. He hadn't moved. "Nothing fixes anything when you keep silent" With that, she moved to the door, forcing James to step aside. Outside she closed the door and smiled.
Back inside, James was scared Emily would send him away if he went near her.He ran his hand though his hair, something he never did. But he needed to do something besides sand there. He took a breath before acually being able to speak,
"You know then?"

Emily nodded. She didn't look up, still staring at the floor. "I'm very confused, James. I don't really understand everything. Everyone seems to be playing a part in the vibrant musical that is my life, except I'm the only one who doesn't know it's fake. That it's fabricated." she spoke in quite a monotonal way, not looking up. She looked deep in thought and pushed her hair back, still blonde.
"But... I don't know if I can trust you, Uncle James. But I love you." she looked up. She didn't falter between her phrases, as if they were natural and there was no doubt on the second.

This statement gave James hope. He sat down on the floor next to her.
"Thank you. I can't tell you how much that means to me, Emily, because I love you so much. I thought you would hate me. I am sorry. Hopefully I can earn your trust back." He hugged her. "Everyone thought you would be safer and we hoped you could grow up as normal girl with a normal childhood."

"No one can just ignore their past and hope it goes away, Uncle James. It has a big effect on the person we are... And most of that's based on growing up but it's also based on who your parents are or were and if all that you know of them seems to be lies... It's like you have no idea who you are or what you're doing here. And it's like someone's taken my person away."

"No, thats not true, Emily. You are still you. It doesn't matter who your parents were. What matters is the choices you make, the way you live your life. Its whats in your heart that matters most." James paused. "The lady you met downstairs, Jade. She let her past consume her. She thought that this one man was her father, but he wasn't. This other man whom she hated more than anything actually was. Jade however didn't find this fact out until after she had dealt him his final blow. She killed him.
After that she went a little mad, she wouldn't listen to her friends and loved ones. The ones who knew she was truely a good person. It didn't matter if he father had been an evil man. But she seemed consumed. Jade did horrible things because she thought she was connected to this man. Later she reliezed that it didn't matter, but the damage was done. So please, Emily. Genes aren't everything."
