Emily glanced back at Jade once, slightly confused again, and let herself be dragged to Link's room, examining all the family photos that lined the walls as she did. There were lots of people she hadn't seen or didn't recognise, but she didn't ask any questions as she was led to Link's room. The house was a lot bigger than any she'd seen, and she found herself mesmerised by the nice, protective feeling she got from being inside the walls of it.

Link sat on the her bed deep in thought. Was what she was doing right? Should she respected James' wishes? Well in didn't much matter anymore. She was in this deep. It didn't take too long til she heard Ki clambering up the stairs and then after that the noise downstairs escalate. They had cleary sent Ki upstairs before they started arguing.
Link hated it when her parents argued. Afterwards she would make sure she gave each of her parents a hug but mainly she spent time with her father because he usually lost and needed more comforting.

Emily sighed to herself, sat on the floor of Link's room. She wanted to speak to Link, but it was as if her throat had been padlocked. So the silence of the room became thick and sordid, the low amount of angry noise from downstairs being the only sound they could hear. Emily pulled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, staring at her jeans.
She knew the argument downstairs wouldn't be taking place if it weren't for her. She slowly started to imagine how long it would've been if she hadn't found out now. Or, even, how it would've been if her parents hadn't died. Or if she'd already been told. Or if she wasn't so confused. She very rarely heard arguing in a family household.
A big, fat teardrop slipped down her cheek and landed on her jeans. Then, another, and another, and another.

"They argue all the time" Link said. She didn't like to see people sad. "Its not just because of you." A thought crossed Link's mind nd she jumpped up. "They'll be distracted right now. We can sneak up to the attic. Come on."
Link opened the door quietly and looked at the stairs at the far end of the hall. The stairs to the attic.

Emily stood up and wiped her eyes with her palms. She never cried. She followed Link quietly to the door and also peered out, looking curiously at the staircase ahead and wondered what magical things they may uncover in the attic. She smiled softly to herself and sniffled pathetically, no longer crying. She had no reason to cry, it was too complex for her to stop and cry. She couldn't allow herself. Her inbred sense of determination took over and she looked to Link, as if to say "Let's go."

Link understood and nodded. As they started down the hallway, they could hear the shouting more clearly.
"...Wolf boy's daughter?" It was Logan's voice.
"Careful" came a voice Link hadn't expected to hear. Uncle James.
"Don't call him that." Jade snapped.
"What am I suppose to call him?" Logan challenged.
"Try his name." James came back. "You're just sour because he dated Jade for awhile. So do you hate me too?"
"Nobody hates anybody." Jade's voice once more.
"You hated her mother!" Logan again.
"I did not. We were very good friends." Jade's voice sounded hurt almost as if she wanted to cry.
"Which is why you tried to kill each other everytime you saw one another?" Logan accused.
"We fought yes. But we were friends first. Who do you think paid for ...." Jade's words were cut off by a shout.
"You did what?" Logan once more.
"Look, this is not the issue." James once more. "The problem is it think she knows and now because I listened to all of you my daughter hates me."
"James..." Jade's voice trailed off.
"She's not your daughter." Logan said.
"As good as!" James snapped.
As Link listened she was astonished. She had never heard Uncle James get upset before. And it was her fault. She had told Emily the truth.
"James, I warned you. I told you..." Jade started.
"And because I took all of your advice, she hates me. I know what happens, Jade. But I was willing to pay the price for a bit of happiness. If i wasn't do you think we would have ever been friends? Or Ian? What about Auron? And... and.. Ariana?" Link wasn't sure if James was crying or yelling. "I have lived for quite awhile Jade Star-anise. If i wanted to save myself the pain of watching my friends, my family, my love die I would have cut myself off from the mortal world long ago."

(awwww james!!!!)
Emily paused and glanced down the stairs, rather than up them into the loft. She seemed to look onwards, longing, and seemed undecided as to whether she wanted to go up or down. James's voice was the last thing she'd expected as well and it certainly threw her, especially with hearing how upset he was.

The room was silent for a moment. Link held her breath unsure of what to do.
"Jade, are Ki or Phoebe going to be here tonight?" This was a voice that had let the other three shout it out and now had her piece to say.
"Not that I know of, Aunt Genny." Jade said with a sigh.
"Then I don't see any reason to act like a bunch of three year olds." Aunt Genny's statementwas met with a chorus of,
"Yes, Ma'am."
"James, she'll come around. And maybe you're right, maybe we should have listened to you. But whats done is done. Jade, sweetheart, I know you feel responsible for the whole mess. But you have to stop blaming yourself. Logan, remember that the past should not rule the future. Now if you three will excuse me." With that there was movement on the stairs.
Link's eyes went wide as she figured out what was happening. Aunt Genny was coming up the stairs. Fear of being caught raced through Link's viens. But when she tried to move, she found she couldn't. She was literally froze in place. Aunt Genny would catch them for sure. Link tried to move again, even bat an eyelash. She was used to the magic used in the house, but Link didn't know about Emily.

Emily tried to look wildly around as the footsteps came up the stairs, but found she couldn't. Panicking wildly, Emily tried her hardest to break free, to move any muscle on her body, to claw her way out, but nothing worked.
Until her fingers started to move as her fingernails grew an inch. Feeling remarkably free and not noticing the growth of her fingernails, she tried in vain to use her now active hands to move the rest of her. It did not work.

Link would look anstonished if she could but she couldn't. How was Emily moving? Genny appeared infront of the girls. She gave Emily a questioning look before releasing the spell. Then she pointed up the attic stairs. Link opened her mouth to say something, but thought better of it and trudged up the stairs.

Following Link's silent commital to Genny's orders, Emily also followed up the staircase, silently tiptoeing her way there. The evening was getting more and more interesting by the second. Even knowing Genny in passing, Emily still knew that when she said something it was done, regardless of what or where it was.
As she came to the top of the stairs and glanced around, she looked amazed; in her small terraced house at home had she never seen such a wonderous treasure cove of memories.

Genny shut the door behind them.
"Girls, you heard lot just now." Genny started as she took a seat in an old arm chair. She smiled at Emily. Now she knew she should have done this earlier. "Emily, I want to apologize and ask you to forgive James. And if you can do that, I might be able to anwser your questions."

"I don't forgive blindly." said Emily softly, intending for her voice to sound a lot harsher than it did as she thought about James's voice cracking moments ago. "I just... I can't even think about how I feel about anyone or anything until I understand what the hell I'm talking about. I'm so confused," she admitted, voice softening yet again. She seemed to refuse to meet Genny's eye as she stared at the flooring of the attic.

Genny nodded understanding. Link sat on the floor and tucked her legs underneath her.
"Well, then let me make it clear, James never wanted to hide the truth from you. That was my fault. Now before we begin why don't you tell me what you know and I'll fill in the holes."

Emily sat down on the floor too, although she kept her eyes on it. "Hmmm..." she said, thinking back. "I know that I was the baby they thought was dead and they couldn't find the body. And from the same set of articles... Well, I know my parents were murdered, not in a car crash. And that the little girl," she said, pointedly not saying Ki's name, "has the same name as the girl they thought killed my parents."
