"I can't believe you're finally teaching me, Uncle James." Link said practically bouncing up and down as she returned with three bows and quivers of arrows jumbled in her arms, nearly falling out of them, but it was clear she didn't care. " I mean, I knew I would learn someday. But! Today. Have you ever seen him shoot?" she asked Emily. "it's the most amazing thing ever." in her excitement more arrows slid into the dirt.
James just smiled as he tried to help unload Link's burden, but she was having none of it.
"I'm not even thirteen yet. That's when Uncle James said I would learn. But this is so much better."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Because I'm that way too. And between the two of us we are certain to drive everyone mad." Reynolds winked wondering if it was too soon to drop titles. "shall we be off?"
Ki smiled, but shook her head.
"Unfortunately not. We have to take Tylir so he knows the way out if everything goes pear-shaped later on."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emily smiled at Link's enthusiasm. Her brightness seemed to lift some of the weight off Emily's shoulders and she reached to take a bow from Link's arms.

"Yes, where is your page? I saw him this morning, but not since." Reynolds commented.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Link let her take one, but then when she tried to hand Emily some arrows, her foot caught on one of the leather straps of the quiver and she fell face first on the ground.
Ki shook her head.
"Unless he's following his little sweetheart around, I've no idea." She shrugged and leant up from the stable, standing to look up to the castle as if expecting Tylir to appear on cue.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emily couldn't contain her giggles and shook her head, reaching to help Link up and grab some of the spilt arrows.

Link blushed and handed James a bow. He helped the girls finish setting up the range, before demonstrating the correct technique for the short bow. Next he showed the girls how to notch an arrow.
"Ok, I am going to teach you as if you were holding a long bow. Take up a stance so that the target is perpendicular to your body, dominate hand away from the target. Legs shoulder width apart. Good." James said as he watched them. "Bow in your target side hand. Hold it out flat and lay the arrow like so. Now index and middle finger on the bow string, with the arrow between them. Bring the bow vertical." He checked them again. "Pull the string back to corner of your mouth. Let your eyes find your target and freeze."
James stepped behind Link and raised up her arms and pulled the bow string a bit further back. Then he adjusted Emily's stance. Stepping away, he smiled and told them.
"And release."

"I'm not going to complain if we're alone on this little expedition." Reynolds said smiling. "Are you?"

Emily let go of the arrow, removing her fingers suddenly and making the bow jerk, letting the previously well aimed arrow fly off at an unusual angle.
She would've had the good grace to be sheepish about it, we're she not so impressed by the speed and curve it demonstrated. Whilst she knew of it, Emily had never seen archery in person and was almost mesmerised by the power it could produce.

Ki rolled her eyes at Reynolds in a good natured way, shaking her head and turning her back on the castle.
"I suppose we can't wait around here forever. We've got a war to win." she said, flashing him a grin before gesturing out into their wooded surroundings.
"Lead the way, Captain Reynolds."
