Emily jumped, and a slow tingle spread up her spine. She visibly tensed. Kiara Star-Anise. This was all getting a bit too weird for Emily's liking as the name jump-started her memory. She liked things to be nice and simple and routine. Mysteries only excited her when they didn't frighten her. And things were starting to frighten her, as she tried to slip her hand out of Ki's.
Again her mind was running at a million miles a minute, but none of it made sense. The suspected murderer mentioned in the newspapers, the psychopath, was teenage, and that was over a decade ago. Yet the girl in front of Emily wasn't even born then. Shivering, she tried to form a plausible connection, but the only thing going through her head was James, and what the hell his involvement was. Because she knew he was the missing link to her problems.

Ki was the only one who didn't noice Emily's sudden uncomfortable feeling.
"Ki let go of Emily." Link said. Ki didn't think twice about not listening. She released Emily's hand, but continued to pull James ahead of them.
"Are you okay? Do you not like to be touched?" Link asked concerned.

Emily shook her head, shaking a little. "No, it's not that, it's just.. I.. um.. I just remembered Mama is making dinner early. I probably can't come to the park. I... um.. should go.." unusually, Emily wasn't babbling like she normally would. She seemed slightly shocked as her brain was trying to analyse what was going on - and she didn't get it. As common as the name Prince was, she hardly thought the name "Kiara Star-Anise" was incredibly common. And it was all getting just a bit too eerie for her tastes.

"You're lying" Link said looking straight at Emily. "Somethings wrong. You don't like us." Nothing was a question, Link just stated her observations.

"No, no! I don't not like you! It's just..." Emily trailed off and looked over at Ki and James, then looked to Link. She didn't know what to do, didn't know if she was trustworthy, but a spark inside her decided she was.
"Look... Come with me, and I'll show you, if you like," she said, quickly turning down a side road.

"Alright, but he'll find us again. He always does." Link said following Emily.

"I know, I know. I'd swear he can teleport," said Emily, too hasty to smile, as grabbed Link's wrist so she wouldn't lose her and headed back to the library at a remarkably high pace.

"Yes, i think its because of his pointy ears." Link said not realy bothered by the pace.

Emily smiled as she headed up the library steps at a remarkable pace and zoomed to the reference section. She HAD to show Link before James showed up. She was suddenly determined. Luckily, Emily's table hadn't been cleared and the reel was still sat there when they approached. She quickly loaded it in and flipped to a relevant article, then beckoned for Link to read.

Link read the article. Her face impassive. When she finished, she looked at Emily and bit her lip thoughtfully.
"Uncle James, Mom, and Aunt Genny, they talk alot. Never when they think anyone can hear them. And certainly not when Aunt Phoebe or Aunt Ki are around. But they don't check for me. I'm too quiet." Link paused. With a sigh, she stood up. "I don't think I should be here."

"Help me," begged Emily, face creasing in fear that Link would leave now even less willing to tell her anything and leaving her more in the dark than before. "Please. I don't even know who I am."

Link looked at the older girl. How could she tell James and mother's secret? But how could shenot tell Emily the truth? If it was her, then she'd probably never forgive someone keeping such a big secret. (how very Ian)
"You're her." Link finally said.

Of all the things Emily had expected, it wasn't that, especially not so blunt. "But... But.. She's dead! It says so!" she said, panicking and obviously talking too loud for the library.

"Quiet" Link said trying to calm the older girl. She dragged Emily into the nearest bathroom. "They thought you were dead. To keep you from being targeted they kept up the story. Now you need to calm down."

"Targeted by who? What's happened? Why did they tell me my parents died in a car crash? Why did they keep lying to me!" at this point, Emily began to cry, out of frustration. Out of anger. Out of anguish. Out of the horrible, sickening feeling of betrayal.
