Dammit. Twenty Five? His instincts told him to lie, but how old did he look? He didn't know. He knew if he told her his age then he would be back to being treated like a child again. And he wasn't a child. He was seventeen, just.
"Shh." He stopped her in her tracks, "Did you hear that?" There was no sound. He whispered now; "We're nearly there, let's keep our eyes out." And he continued on his way, pretending to be watchful of every move they took.

Carrie frowned and eyed their surroundings. She could've sworn she hadn't heard anything. "So," she started in a whisper, "How old are you?"

"You know, I have no idea." he lied, "probably just a couple years younger than you, I think my birthday is in spring time." It was a month ago. He smiled charmingly, he was a good liar, that much he knew. He could lie almost as well as he could climb, and he was damn good at that. A skill that found itself to be extremely useful lately.

"Ah," she said. They continued to walk for a bit until a river started to appear. Carrie moved to it and dropped to her knees. It had been a while since she'd seen water. She cupped her hands into the water and threw it over her face with a smile. Drops of dried mud and blood dropped into the river and she continued to throw water over her face.

Jacob smiled as he saw Carrie wash her face in the river. He sat down and leaned on a tree near by. The tree next to him had a variety of carved weapons leaning against it; bows, spears, knives. They were typical of that of a modern tribe, except where the tribal mark would usually be there was a simple "J". Next to these weapons was a leather sack; inside which there was a length of home-made rope and several water skins which Jacob began to fill up from the river.
He stayed silent through this, watching as Carrie's appearance became more visible as the blood and mud was washed away. It had been a long while since he last saw a human face.

Carrie scrubbed at her face and grinned once she felt her face clear of everything. "Oh that's nice," she muttered and she passed a faint look down at her clothes. They were still covered in blood and mud but there wasn't a whole lot she coud do about that. It wasn't like she had a spare change of clothes.
She sat back from the river and eyed the stash of weapons. "Looks like you've been busy." She sighed and let her eyes turn around the area. "You make them too or did you find them?"

"They're all mine" he replied, feeling quite protective of them. "Don't worry," he added, noticing her looking around, "nothing usually comes this side of the river."

She looked at him with a slight crease to her brows. "How long have you been here for?"

"This particular part of the woods, 2 weeks." he replied. He liked to set up camps and stay for as long as he could; it gave him a sense of home, something to remind him that he's human.

"Huh," she said. Then Carrie gestured to the place beyond Jacob's hide out. "What about in total? In this whole place?"

"huh" he realised he hadn't really thought about it before, "at least the good part of a year. I like the woods; knowing them well enough can really save your life"

"Yeah I can imagine," she said. Her eyes fell to the ground as she tried to think about how long she had been here. Was it two years? Or three? Four? She couldn't remember. It had definitely been two years at least. But longer? She couldn't say. A lot of the days had ended up merging into one and soon keeping track had been more trouble then it was worth.

He suddenly felt like being kind; "Hey, if you wanna wash your clothes and hang them out, I've got some sheepskin blankets you can cover with and rest for a while. I need to go hunting anyway, you can stay here. The place is well guarded with traps; in fact you were close to setting one off. But yeah, you'd hear if something was near."

"Right," Carrie said and she eyed the small body of water and the surrounding area. She glanced down at herself and bit the inside of her cheek. She did need to clean herself up. Her eyes fixed themselves on Jacob. Could she trust him? There hadn't been many others like him in here so yes? "Sure, that'd be great," she muttered.

"Great," Jacob grinned charmingly, "I'll be back in a couple of hours, hopefully with some food." With that he grabbed a bow and a pack of arrows and went off into the trees. It felt good to have company again, and yes maybe he was too trusting leaving her there with all of his supplies, but it was his way of showing her that she could trust him.
After he had got to a decent distance he climbed a tree, loaded his bow and waited.
