“This is Torchwood Three. Torchwood One was London—destroyed in the battle. Torchwood Two is an office in Glasgow—a very strange man. Torchwood Three, Cardiff. Torchwood Four has kinda gone missing but we'll find it one day.”
This was said one day not too long ago, not too far away and it's true. Torchwood 4, situated between the others in the City of Manchester. It was last seen at the turn of the millennium when a battle with one of the millennium bugs took a turn for the worst. The base, that was hidden in the deepest parts of the Catacombs under Manchester Cathedral just vanished. There was a void, an empty void left over. Nothing existed there, until 12 years later when the base just reappeared
There was no earthquake, no rumbling and people walking along Deansgate had no inclination that below their feet, 6 people just unknowingly lost 12 years of their life. The team stood still for a moment as they tried to comprehend exactly what had just happened. As far as they were aware, only a few seconds had gone by.
Jessica, head of Torchwood Four, looked around the base, it was a tip. The bloody bug had managed to trash the place in an attempt to dodge the bullets and kill the ones firing them. The computers were scattered around the floor, most of the desks were either toppled over or in pieces. Any pieces of paper that had been left around had managed to litter the entire floor. The only place untouched was the infirmary, locked behind metal doors.
She then looked at the only thing keeping the Manchester rift closed, the Glass Lock. There wasn't much damage, a graze on the side of the glass, a little crack stemming from it. A stray bullet had hit the Lock before killing the Millennium bug that had invaded the catacombs. After the hit there was an unbearable sound of voices, machines and animals all over lapped over one another. It sounded for a few seconds before it stopped.
"What.... the hell just happened?" She muttered, not really aimed at anyone in particular, then looked at the team. "Okay... Julia and Ethan. Go to surface and see if you can find out what happened. I don't know what to expect with the glass broken. Lex? Can you fix up those computers and try and get in contact with Torchwood 1? The rest of you. You can help me clean up this mess. Starting with that thing!" She gestured to the giant insect, twitching on the floor.

Lex heaved a heavy sigh, pushing her over-large glasses up her nose and grabbing the nearest box, carrying it over to a power connector in the corner and plugging it in. She was about to reach for a screen but frowned, cocking her head at the box, causing her high ponytail to swish over her shoulder.
"What in the hell? I think we tripped the power out, Jess."
She played with the power switches a few times, before rolling her eyes and shoving herself over to the other side of the room, where her heavy laptop sat in a briefcase, pulling it out and sitting down cross legged with it, opening the lid.
She furrowed her brow again, toying with the lace on her Doc Marten boots and frowning at her unresponsive machine.
"Come on, you have a full battery..."
Despite her protestations, the laptop did not respond. She growled in frustration.

Emily pulled the door open and peered around it. "Is it dead? Are we alive? What did we break?" She stepped out of the office, her heels clicking on the floor having taken refuge in the room when the bug had taken to trying to kill everyone. The mess made her look round with wide eyes, "Whoa, I'll grab a mop." She moved through the mess of the floor and moved towards the supply closet down a corridor.
Whilst others would assume she was only helpful for psyching the mind, she had her other uses. One of them included being able to use a mop and clean up any wounds. There were other uses, but for now nothing mattered but cleaning the mess and checking that everybody was fine.

Ethan stood in the corner and looked around with his arms folded. He nodded in response to Jessica; "Someone pass me my fucking gun."

"No guns!" Jessica snapped suddenly, "Just go find out what happened," she added rubbing her temple, and returning to picking up all the paper that was scattered and muttering to herself, and catching a glance of the Bug. She grimased at it and looked at Mike. "Do you wanna help me get this thing into an incinerator?"

Ethan rolled his eyes, smirked and gestured to Julia to follow him, "C'mon then". He started walking towards the door.

"It damn well should be, we put enough bullets into it. Feels like it, and by the looks of it, bloody everything..." Mike said in response to Emily, looking around at the place: "Anyone hurt?" he asked them, before turning to Jessica as she spoke to him: "Sure. I won't be sorry to see the last of the damn thing, all the damage it caused..." he looked to the bug's body as he spoke, then again around the room: "What a mess..." he muttered, taking a few steps forwards and waiting for Jessica to be ready to shift the body.

Jessica had a little internal debate as to which end to grab before settling on the front, the rear end looked too much like a scorpian for her liking. She took a firm grip of the forelegs and began to drag the creature out of the main hub and down below to wear an old cemation furnace lay.
The moment they left the hub the gathering of dust caused the ex-police officer to sneeze, "Jeez. I need to keep this place dusted, this is..." she sneezed again, "terrible." She slowly backed herself down the stairs the bug held tightly, "What a mess," she muttered, "I've got a bad feeling about all of this. Something doesn't seem right, not after that noise," she told the doctor, thoughts racing through her head as she tried to work out what exactly had happened.

As Jessica and Mike moved the creature out of the room, Emily set to filling the bucket up with disinfectant soap and hot water. She guessed it would take more than one mopping session to fully get rid of the mess. She sighed, dunking the mop into the water and pulling it out, draining out the excess water. With that she began trying to rid of the mess on the floor as quickly and efficiently as possible.
'What did happen?' she wondered to herself. There was that loud cacophany of sounds, then nothing. Her brows knitted together in confusion. Whatever it was, it wasn't good.

Julia's instincts seemed to be saying something more than their ears being assaulted had happened, but she was a too busy fumbling through her overturned desk drawer. She had lost a contact during the struggle and now could only half see. Her had closed over her spare glasses case. As quickly as she could, Julia took out her remaining contact and put the flimsy silver wire frames on over her hazel eyes instead as she waved a response to Jessica.
"Sure, sure" she said and picked up a discreet looking alien scanner. With Lex's help it now resembled an ordinary palm pilot. It would read for atmospheric changes and take samples of the environment to be studied later. She had no idea what the crack meant or whether the bug had succeeded with doing any damage, but this would help her assess the results. Heading for the exit, Julia rolled her eyes at Ethan and Jessica's exchange.
Once they were done, Julia took the lead out the first door that went into the catacomb tunnels as she buttoned up her coat. Partly for the warmth once they got to the street and the other to cover up millennium bug guts splattered on her trousers. The corridor directly outside the base doors made Julia frown as her blonde braid got caught in a cobweb. Maybe it was a fluke, but the rest of the passage appeared just as unkept. It was possible that she hadn't noticed the condition of the space on her way in that morning.
"Give me a minute to get a scan before we hit the street." She said to Ethan as she tapped the stylus against the screen and then held out the device. The scanner was programmed to save the data it received and analyzed and would load as soon as she hooked it up to her computer. The device beeped and Julia put it away.
"Let's keep moving. Maybe we'll find more answers topside."

By this point, Lex was impatiently fiddling with the mobile phone in her hands, trying to make it turn on. The Nokia 3210 was one of her most prized possessions and if the millenium bugs had damaged it even slightly she would be a very unhappy girl. Unfortunately, all she seemed able to do was incessantly press the power button, with no response. This had never happened before and the young girl was clearly getting quite distressed by it. She scowled and made a small noise of frustration.
"What has HAPPENED to all the electronics?!" she shouted, at no one in particular, throwing her hands in the air.

Ethan followed Julia through the tunnels. "God, when did this place get such a shit hole?". "I swear we don't normally have this much dust and shit." He didn't know why but he felt quite unsettled about this situation. He had a strong feeling that he was forgetting something but couldn't quite place it. As usual, he ignored it and carried on.

Taking hold of the back legs, and being careful to avoid touching the stinger, Mike helped Jessica to shift the corpse of the bug out of the room and down towards the furnace area: "Yeah; even by our standards this whole thing feels strange..." he nodded, wondering what the hell was going on all of a sudden as he followed her slowly down the stairs: "Ugh, I swear even down here doesn't usually get this dusty..." he coughed as their footsteps kicked up the dust that had settled on the stairs.

With another few sneezes, Jessica and Mike were able to throw the creature into the furnace. She brushed her hands on her pants and went to turn it on, only for nothing to happen. "What the...?" she muttered. After a quick look around she saw the pilot light on the furnace was out and covered in a horrible layer of dust. He gave an exagurated huff, blowing some of her fringe from her face and pulled out a light from her pocket to relight it. Only nothing happened. "What the hell is going on here?" She looked to the Gas canister to find it's gauge showing as empty. She replaced the canister, lit the pilot light and finally got the furnace running again.

Emily finished the mopping with a thin layer of sweat on her forehead. She took a few moments to relax before she emptied the bucket into the sink. She decided to make a phone call, particularly the one she'd been in before the bug had attacked. She quirked her brow at Lex but didn't comment on the woman's ranting. One thing she'd learnt; do not interrupt Lex if she was in the middle of something and it was beginning to annoy her.
Ignoring the younger woman she made her way to her office; a small clustered room that held a desk, a computer, phone, plants and files stacked on the floor and desk. There was even a filing cabinet tucked away into one of the corners. She ignored the mess for now and reached for the phone, sent her finger to dial the first number when she stopped. There was no dial tone. Emily frowned, hung up the phone and tried it several times, even tried pressing a few buttons, but nothing seemed to work.
Putting the phone back down she pulled out her mobile phone and even found herself struggling to find a signal on it. She turned on her heels, opened the door to the main room and called across to Lex, "What's wrong with the phones?"
