Jimmy flew out of the kitchen and hit the ground hard. He lost all feeling in his shoulder and once he had ground to a halt he then scrambled to his feet and ran back into the study that he had got into the house through. He then very hastily pulled a bag of salt out of his bag and began to form it into a circle not really paying attention to the door in case the monster came after him.

If she was going to be like that fine; nothing was ever simple in this life was it? Unless you actively prepare in advance a group, you were on your own. A little bit of spontaneously helping out people doing the same job as you would have been nice one in a while, but then again, this was the life he'd signed on for, and he was used to it by now. Still, if and when the day came, it would be a nice little change.
Shaking his head slightly, he briefly called back to her: "Well if you change your mind..." then headed down the remainder of the steps to the level below; the lower corridor was indeed lit by several candles, and was lined with coffins set in alcoves in the walls, whilst it lead to a pair of slightly open wooden doors at the far end.
Two of the creatures, who apart from a ragged look, appeared Human in all respects, were rummaging around in the coffins in the corridor. The others were most likely scavenging in the room at the end. Given that they were busy, he'd managed to get the drop on them, like he'd hoped to have done, and he blasted the first one full in the face with the shotgun before they noticed him. Of course when he fired, that lost all surprise he had on the them, and the second managed to throw itself down out of the way of his second shot, before rushing towards him and knocking the gun from his hands.
"Shit!" he cursed, ducking out of the way of the creatures fist and punching it in the face in return; it was times like this he was grateful to have been brought up in a family of Hunters, who'd trained him to fight creatures like this. As the thing tackled him, carrying them both backwards against a coffin, he slammed his hands down on its back to get it to release its grip, then brought his right knee up into its face, knocking it down to the floor. Taking the backup machete he had brought from his waist, he sliced the thing's head off whilst it was still down.
He was going to hurt in the morning after this, and there were still two of them left down here who hadn't appeared yet, and who, unless they were deaf, knew someone was after them. Sliding the machete back into the holder at his waist, he picked up the shotgun again, and pumped the lever so it was ready to fire again, then started to advance down towards the room at the end of the corridor. God he hated Ghouls.

Hannah growled as she began to walk away. Two gun shots made her hesitate before turning around and advancing down the steps. Ghouls. You needed to decapitate them. Machete at the ready, she took the stairs two at a time. When she reached the bottom, she looked into the room. One Ghoul's head lay on the floor close to its body.
She moved further into the room silently. Ghouls were tricky bastards and if his information was right about there being four of them, the likelihood of the other two showing their faces anytime soon was unlikely. "Moron," she hissed at the room. They had a tendency to run and attack back when you felt safe.
A pool of blood sat just a foot away and she observed it and the immediate area. There were a few drops that led away and she followed them to a burrowed hole in the wall. From her waist she pulled a torch out and shone it inside. "Great. Just great." The hole itself was big enough to fit through, but the idea of crawling around in a small enclosed space with god knows what waiting for her at the other end. The idea was not an appealing one.
She sighed to herself, shimmied herself onto her stomach, machete and torch in front and began to crawl through the small hole. If she was lucky, it would lead straight to where the others were and would give HER the surprise necessary to kill them. If they were still around that is.

He followed the hunter into the study and, still in smoke form, grazed the ceiling and lifted one arm out to hit the bag of salt away from him. His other arm came out to grab him by his neck and pull him off the ground.

Jimmy felt the salt fly from his hand, and then being pulled into the air. The beast was choking him. He looked into it's eyes and in a panic pulled his gun up and fired.

Two down, two to go. Heading the rest of the way along the corridor, he stopped briefly outside the heavy doors; no sound beyond, which was odd, since that looked to have been the only other place that they could have been down here. Kicking the doors open, and heading inside, weapon raised, he checked the room; completely clear but for the open coffin in the centre. They had been in here at some point, but now they had vanished. Not good. No visible escape route either.
He headed back into the corridor; that's when he spotted the blood trail leading to the hole in the wall. Taking a torch from his jacket, he bent down at the entrance and looked inside; there was someone crawling along further up. Seeing as it would take longer to crawl in after them, and since the tunnel probably lead to the outside, he turned and began to run back up the corridor, towards the stairs leading back towards the exit one level above.
If he was fast enough, he should be able to head it off; as he passed along the corridor towards the stairs, he noticed there was only one body down here; the one he'd shot must have somehow survived. Son of a bitch! He started to run up the stairs.
__________
Frantically clawing its way through the dirt, the Ghoul left a trail of blood in the tunnel it was digging as it made progress towards the surface; it could barely see, thanks to being blasted in the face with the shotgun: if Mike had been a couple of steps closer it would have been dead like its companion. It had no idea what had become of the other two of its pack. If they were smart they would have run too when they heard the shots. It was getting closer to the surface now, hoping that no-one had found the tunnel yet.

Hannah crawled as fast as she could through the small burrowed hole. After a short while light hit her face and she scurried towards it. She hit fresh air and she looked around to find, to her dismay, that she was in a graveyard and she pulled herself out.
When she got to her feet, a weight forced the air out of her lungs as her body hit the ground. A fist collided with the side of her head, temporarily blinding her. She threw her fists out wildy. She got a hit off, striking, the Ghoul from off of her.
She scrambled up and tried to reach for her fallen machete. The Ghoul came at her again, striking once more at her head. She felt blood begin to dribble and kicked out at the Ghoul.
Now, Hannah got the chance to get to her feet. She reached for the machete and turned, stretching her arms out and luckily, striking the Ghoul in the neck. It was now that she got a proper look, its head rolling onto the floor. Its jaw hung off its skull by no more than a few strands of flesh.
It was then that she saw Mike stumble out of the crypt, shotgun at the ready. She bent over, panting, and wiped the blood from her face. It wasn't going to heal up quickly and she decided it would be fine until she got back to her motel room.

The Abiku recoiled at the rocksalt and fizzled to the floor. It retook it's human looking form and hissed up at the hunter.

Having sped through the rest of the Crypt, Mike had burst out into the Graveyard proper, gun aimed, when he saw Hannah finish the Ghoul. Seeing as that had removed the last of them that was still around here, he jogged over to her, flipping the safety onto the weapon and slinging it over his shoulder. Those other two would be as good as gone by now, but no doubt he'd run into them again some day given his line of work.
Stopping by Hannah, he looked briefly at her injuries; seemed they'd both gotten a few scratches in the course of things: "I appreciate the assist..." he said to her: "You good?" he asked her. Even if she had only changed her mind at the last minute, and they hadn't really worked together in the true sense, it was still a nice change to have been on a job with another Hunter. How the other two Ghouls had gotten away however, was something that annoyed him; surely they couldn't have slipped past two Hunters?
"Even if we didn't exactly get off to the best start, you did still do me a favour, so I think I owe you a beer, if you're up for it? There should still be a Pub open around here..." he added; he did pretty much expect her to just leave, but since you didn't often meet other Hunters, he figured it wouldn't hurt to at least offer; she had after all helped him out, even if she hadn't seemed to want to initially.
__________
"Take us back!" the first Ghoul screeched
"Those two were our children!" the second, a female hissed. The Ghouls found themselves in an old, dull and abandoned industrial estate, facing the one who had brought them here from the Crypt: He was a well built yet unassuming man in his mid-thirties, tanned slightly, wearing his brown hair, slightly greyed at the edges, in a short, sensible cut. He was dressed in a grey suit, without a tie, over a white shirt and black shoes. This was the sort of man who wouldn't look out of place teaching a University Class, though there was something about the cold indifferent expression on his face that hinted at something being off about him.
"Do you have it?" he asked simply, his voice matching his expression. He spoke with a southern English accent: "That is why we are here..."
"Take us back! We'll talk about that later!" the female spat: "We can still kill the Hunter!"
The suited man's expression did not change, but rather his annoyance was betrayed by his eyes, which for a brief moment flashed a solid, dark purple, before returning to their usual hazel: "You did not answer my question..." he replied simply, voice staying in the same cold tone as before
"We do..." the male answered him, reaching into its pocket and producing an ornate gold ring: "We did what you asked, now take us back!"
"Yes, well done..." the man replied, stepping forwards and placing a hand on each of the Ghoul's heads; a moment later, they both screamed in agony as searing white light erupted through their eyes, nose and mouth. They fell, charred and dead to the ground: "But your usefulness is now over..." he bent down and retrieved the ring from the dead Ghoul, then, in the blink of an eye, he vanished, leaving behind the two corpses.

Jimmy hit the floor hard, he looked up as the Abiku took human form. He decided it was best to not waste any time, he took another shot at it hoping it would keep it weakened long enough to get the salt circle up. So he picked up the bag and began to draw the circle.

Hannah took a few moments to simply stare at Mike. He was offering to buy her a drink. Wiping at her head again, she sighed. "I'm good." After a moment she stepped up to Mike, almost toe to toe, her face twisted into anger and said. "I told you I was good to go on these Ghouls. Your damn gunshots scared the others off. Well done. Now there's no telling where they'll next turn up."
She turned on her feet and searched the floor until she found her shotgun. She checked that it wasn't broken or dinted and, happy with the condition of her gun, propped it against her shoulder. Hannah turned back to the other Hunter, a scowl in place, and considered the offer for a moment. He did owe her and he had gotten in the way of a perfectly good hunt. "Fine. One drink, and then we part ways okay?"

The Abiku picked himself up, everything aching. The rock salt was still burning his face, a mixture of scars marring his face. He could only watch as the Hunter formed a circle of salt around him. If he'd been shot anywhere else, he would've been able to get up, grab the Hunter and break his neck. Unfortunately, a shot to the face hindered him greatly.

Jimmy finished the circle and fell back against the desk. He had trapped it now. Not in very convincing fashion mind but he had done it none the less. He reloaded his shotgun and aimed at his head...
He waited a few moments but he couldn't think of a witty one liner for the situation at end so he just shot him.

He wasn't going to expound a potential argument by pointing out that the other two had seemingly vanished from the Crypt; by the looks of it, it actually seemed quite probable that they had left before he had arrived in the lower corridor, which would of course account for the lack of evidence of escape, but did nothing to provide any reason why they'd actually leave. It wouldn't do any good to rehash it now anyway.
He also wasn't going to say anything that would provoke her more; she was already blaming him for the others getting away; she'd have had a point, but for the singular lack of evidence as to how; if he didn't know better, he'd have said that they vanished into thin air. He simply looked at her calmly as she glared at him, then smiled briefly as she accepted his offer. That was a relief, he didn't want to part ways with another Hunter on bad terms.
"Okay, one drink..." he replied: "I assume you drove here as well?" he asked, starting to walk, waiting for her to follow: "The place I have in mind is about five minutes drive from here..." if she knew the area, she'd know where he meant, if not she could always follow after him or ride with him if she didn't have a vehicle.

Hannah shook her head. "No, I walked here," she said, answer dripped in sarcasm. "I know where you mean. I'll meet you there at seven. There's just something I want to check." Not waiting for an answer she pushed past him and back in the direction of the Crypt just yards from their current position. She wanted to check something. If there supposed to be four Ghouls, she wanted to double check for any burrowed holes that they could've escaped from.
Torch in hand, she clicked it on and held her machete in the other hand. Her head hurt like a bad hangover, but she could put up with it if it meant potentially saving a few lives.

The Abiku screamed in horror as the shot hit him. The pain flared across his entire body in a blaze of fire. The salt buried itself within his body and he felt the flames literally begin to eat him. Within a few moments, his body was engulfed and he existed no more.

Jimmy watched as the Abiku was engulfed in flames and dissapeared in the glowing inferno. Once the room had returned to it's bleak, dull self he decided to venture upstairs.

He chuckled lightly at that; it was the kind of answer he'd have given under the circumstances. He nodded to her as she passed him: "Alright, I'll see you there..." he replied, heading along past the Crypt's exterior, through the graveyard, and out into the car-park where his car was. Checking around briefly to make sure there was no-one else around, he opened the boot, then lifted up the cover of the lower section, where a variety of weapons, ammo, and other items that aided hunting were kept.
Placing the shotgun back in its place, along with the machete and pistol he had brought as well, he closed the cover again, followed by the boot, then opened the door and climbed into the driver's seat. Before setting off, he checked the mirror to make sure there weren't any obvious injuries, then took a quick look under his shirt to investigate the throbbing around his midriff; a series of bruises and several scrapes from being bashed into the coffin. He'd throw some anti-sceptic on when he got back to the hotel. It was painful and would ache like a bitch in the morning, but it wasn't a serious injury fortunately.
With that, he headed off to the pub, heading inside and finding a table, ordering two beers and sitting down waiting for her to arrive.

Hannah made her way back into the crypt and down back to where she had found the first body. A set of doors sat open at the end of the room and after waving her torch around, on both walls and ceiling, she mvoed towards this room. One coffin sat open and she did a quick sweep with her torch to check that it was empty, before looking into the coffin. Nothing. Out of curiosuity, she looked on the coffin for a name.
Cardinal Anthony Mellor. 1647 - 1721.
"Huh," she said to herself, waving the torch back into the coffin once more. She looked over the skeletal body, the small of the dead hardly fazing her. After years of salting and burning remains she'd grown accustomed to it. Sort of. There was nothing out of the ordinary about it, nothing to suggest anything important.
But it was the only touched coffin.
She took a note of the name and date, searched the walls for any burrowed holes and found one just tucked away in the corner behind an old candle holder. "Dammit," she muttered. Shaking her head, she got back to her feet, checked the rest of the room and left to her car. When she was sat in the driver's seat she checked her appearance in the mirror and sighed. Her first destination was to her motel room to tidy up her face and clean her wound. After that she drove to the pub Mike had been talking about and entered.
She saw sat at one of the tables and joined him, taking one of the pints for herself and immediately took a big gulp. "Thanks."
