Rogers nodded to the people filing in. He checked his watch. Miller was late. He sighed and pointed at the cart of coffee and tea, "Grab yourselves a drink if you must. We're waiting for one more person I'm afraid." And he might be fired yet. He kept that thought to himself.

Paciencia poured herself some coffee. She kept it black with no sugar, and sipped the hot drink. Minus the Major, she was the highest ranking in the room. It must've been that some of these people, even those who were fairly low rank, had some kind of purpose that Rogers required. She had her marksmanship with a sniper rifle, so the others must have something to bring to the table.

There was another in formal dress, she noticed as she looked across the table to the First Sergeant. That was good. There was someone else here who thought as highly of this mission and the opportunity it provided as she did, it would seem.
She took a sip of her tea as she waited for the final member of their team to arrive, wondering whom it might be. So far she only really recognised people from their faces in passing here and there rather than actually knowing who they were in detail.

Miller wandered into the briefing room in his civilian clothing; jeans and a white t-shirt that had a nearly-naked lady printed on the front of it. When he swung the door open he paused for a moment, seeing everyone dressed in their combat gear and even two in their dress uniforms. "Aww shi..." he muttered, going to back out of the room again.

Rogers' eyes landed on Miller. He saw the Private about to back out and stared at him. "Nice of you to join us Miller. Sit down." It was an order and he kept his gaze on the younger man. He would have to talk to him. Again.
'Great.'

Miller smiled awkwardly, realising there was no way he could go and get changed now. He walked in and sat on a chair.
Sarah couldn't believe her eyes. 'Please no' she thought. 'Anyone, ANYONE but him.'
Miller cast a wink at her and began to lean back on his chair. He let all four legs drop to the floor when he noticed the tea trolley. He stood and poured himself a coffee with four sugars and grabbed as many biscuits he could carry in his hands and mouth before returning to his seat.

Davis wasn't too happy to see Miller there. He was pretty annoying and to be honest he felt that Miller lacked the discipline to tie his own shoes let alone do something important. But he knew Miller had ability and he would trust Rogers choice. He looked at some of the other people in the room and felt quite outranked in comparison. The mission must be pretty important to get the higher ups involved.

Paciencia said nothing. Internally she was screaming, but in her attitude she remained calm and collective. This Miller character had to be a joke, had to be someone who had stumbled into the wrong room. If the Major had truly invited him and this wasn't a set up or test, then he had to be particularly good at something.
If this was one of her cadets, she would not simply let him come in. He would do pushups until his arms ached in agony. He would run laps until his legs were jelly. He would clean each and every piece of equipment until they were pristine of even the smallest dust mote.
She sipped on her black coffee, trying not to even look at this buffoon of a soldier.

Rogers gave Miller another glare before he stood and closed the door. He remained standing as he turned to the other five people in the room. "As you know this is a classified mission so the utmost secrecy is important." He cast his eyes to Miller once more. "You all know about the Land bases and their roles. Three hours ago our station received a distress beacon from Land base 17. What the nature of this distress is we don't know. To be honest we're all hoping it's nothing more than a fresh run in supplies, but I have been tasked with putting a team together to investigate this signal and report back. Any questions?"

"Have there been any other issues with other land bases Sir? Like power issues or something." Davis was curious as to whether or not this was an isolated incident.
"It might give us a better idea of what to expect."

Rogers shook his head. "No. It is just base 17 and there has been radio silence."

"When do you want us to leave, Sir?" Sarah asked, worried about her race tomorrow.

Rogers nodded at Sarah's question. "We're leaving at 1400 hours. Standard combat dress. Do not be late or I will replace you," he cast these last words in Miller's direction. Part of him wondered if the First Sergeant and Sergeant would kick his ass at some point. He knew he wouldn't stop them.

"1400 hours today? Like, in an hour?!" Miller spoke with biscuits in his mouth.

No uniform. No protocol. No sense of decency. This man was an offense to the uniform in her eyes, that was if he ever actually wore one. But she was not one to question the decisions of her superiors; if they wanted him then she would respect that without question. She did, however wonder what this slovenly excuse for a solider could bring to a team besides heightened blood-pressure. If he'd been one of her men he would have been made an example to the rest of the unit for his behavior.
Natsumi turned her thoughts from Miller to Rogers' explanation of the task facing them. "Were there any military personnel groundside at 17 or just civilians?" She asked Rogers, ignoring the sound of Miller talking with his mouth full.
He even had bad personal manners as well as complete disregard for military protocol.
