Ki held back the sigh of exhaustion at Tylir's questions.
"I'm okay, I haven't been able to get hold of anyone else, though." She paused momentarily, knowing the ripples of this must have spread further than she could have even imagined.
"Okay Tylir I'm going to give you information because I might not find still water again for a while and I need you to know what's going on here in case you make contact with anyone. The city is in ruins. I've barely come across a single building that hasn't crumbled to the ground, save for the house. In all likelihood, Phoebe is dead. I don't know where the young ones are because I haven't been able to make contact, but I'm going to try and find them." She didn't mention her concerns that they might also be dead, gone, crushed by the Phoenix.
"I don't know how long it will be before officials roll in here and start a rescue and rebuild, but from the look of you I can see they've probably got stuff on their own hands at the moment."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Overhearing, Emily bit her lip until it was white, holding in her almost crushing fears. Would Link have kept her Tryamon so close? Is her baby, so far away and with no one, lay dying under rubble? The thought was almost too much to bear and she had to clear it from her mind, ignore the very idea. She didn't want Tylir to read anything further than a desperate worry for her best friend from the pained look in her eyes. She tried to focus her thoughts and reloaded her bow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Keira glanced over at Kendra briefly before looking away. She knew mourning was private, and this was truly a spectacle to mourn. She was surprised it had taken this long for the impact of the city to hit the group.
She dug in her bag, distracting herself, taking out the end of a stale loaf and tearing a chunk off, eating it thoughtfully, considering how much more of the sky she could see than before.

"Thank you, Lady Kiara." Tylir said though his eyes were locked on Emily. "contact us when you can. Be safe. We'll be there once we have this under control."
Once Kiara was gone, Tylir grabbed Emily's hand and kissed it.
"We'll find her. I promise."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had taken a while, but James had made it to the forest through the burning meadow. He had a few burns he received while protecting his mount. There was a nice shiny burn all along his left forearm and a couple of smaller ones on his leg, but being who he was, he ignored the pain. With one last look behind him, James headed deeper into the wood.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kendra wiped her eyes before sitting up and scooting closer to the dying embers of the fire. She ignored the hunger pains and tried to be grateful she was alive out of 13million that weren't.
"How are you doing?" she finally asked as she watched Ian sleep.

Keira smiled gently and extended the hunk of bread out to Kendra.
"Better than I look," she said with half a catty smile, stretching and wincing at the same time. "Today will be easier."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ki sighed and glanced around the house only once more, before taking out, almost not looking back until a thought struck her and she turned suddenly, searching the perimeter of the house until she found what she was looking for; Jade's bike, still well cared for though scratched by the house damage, still fuelled. Perfect. Smiling to herself, she took off into the city at speed, her hair flying in the wind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emily nodded, giving Tylir a gentle smile before recocking her bow and firing again. It seemed almost endless. They had to do something more extreme, but what? She frowned, and looked to Tylir, before lowering her bow and giving him a quick glance.
"Do not die whilst I am inside. I'll be five minutes."
And then she was gone, running through the palace.

The cloak moved faster than Ian possibly could dream, especially with an entourage. She could just imagine her brother digging out every survivor he could find. But she needed to get uptown without him finding her. Ian was certain to have gotten into the city via the George Washington bridge from Jersey. He would have looked for his quickest entry to Manhattan. The five boroughs had all been sealed off initially. So he would have used that time to make his way from Westchester to New Jersey. If her calculations were correct, Ian would be in Morningside Heights by now, making his way to midtown from the upperwest side. If he didn't stop, he would hit the Chrysler Building by this afternoon.
With a sigh, she noticed, because of the destruction around her, she could see the beginning of Central Park all the way from Lexington Avenue. Hopefully, if she stayed on the east side, Ian wouldn't find her as she made her way to the Harlem river and the Bronx.
-----------------
"Thanks," Kendra said before trying to eat the bread slowly so as not to upset her stomach. "I'm a grad student at Columbia, or was I guess. What about you? Why were you in this part of the city?"
------------------
James reached the entry point to the faery realm ahead of the fires and he was soon heading on his way to the faery palace and home of the Faery queen, his daughter, Emily.
---------------------
Tylir had no idea what his wife was up to, but he had no plans on dying anytime soon. So, Tylir fired another volley and watched some of the other faeries do the same.

Emily had run to the kitchens where most of the palace staff had gathered and were now running around, active as the usually agreeable and sociable Queen demonstrated she had no time for pleasantries.
"I'm going back to the battlements and if I don't have access to every drop of water in this palace by the time I'm there then Gods help you all," she said, waving a finger at the kitchen staff and raising her voice, before running back through the palace up to the battlements again, not stopping to catch her breath.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I travelled," said Keira carefully, yawning again. "My whole family lives out here and I.. needed to know." She left the point hanging and painfully clear.
"I'm sorry." Kendra said understanding Keira's feelings. She looked down at Ian again. He looked much more boyish as he slept than when he was awake. "Should we wake him?" She asked as she gently brushed a dark curl from his face.
----------------------
"Whatever you have planned, now would be a good time for it." Tylir said as he pulled an arrow from his quickly depleting stash.
-----------------------
James let out a battle cry as he cut his way through the ranks outside the faery palace. Where as normally it glittered gold in the sun light, now it was harsh reds and oranges that flickered back against its reflective surface.
He gritted his teeth as somebody's start arrow pierced his shoulder. But he didn't let it stop his advance.
"Give him a few more minutes," Keira said gently, looking back out across the ruin of the city. It was like waiting for it to wake up but she knew, in her heart, it would not.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Right," Emily said, poising an arrow in her bow, "if this doesn't work I'm all out of ideas, and possibly unconscious."
She flashed Tylir half a grin that only betrayed a hint of nervousness, before pulling the arrow back as a maid arrived with a bucket of water and Emily glanced back at her.
"Nen nar nuquerna," she spoke, gently, as if a prayer to her own weapon, before letting the arrow fly free, and after it a ribbon of water straight from the bucket, as if being led by the arrow.
Emily dropped her bow almost instantly, focusing all of her energy on the arrow, watching it curve and dive straight into the nearest of the fiery beasts.
