"Make sure you say goodbye to mom. Otherwise she'll freak out and resort to some crazy magick to track you down." Link said with a smile as Ian reached up his arms to his sister. Obligingly, Link knelt down so he could climb on to her shoulders.

Ki smirked.
"As fun as that is every now and again, I don't think I could take the lecture afterwards. We'll come home with you, then, give a quick goodbye before packing." She smiled gently, extending one hand towards Kaiya, who promptly pretended she could not see her mother and kept kicking her legs aimlessly.

"We have to go pick up Kiara first. But you are welcome to join us, Aunt Ki." Link said standing and gripping Ian's legs. "Kaiya, we're going to go get your favorite cousin, Kiara. Then you can play and at Grandma's house."

Kaiya nodded sweetly and hopped off her swing, skipping over to the others with an angelic smile on her face.
"Yay! Let's go!"
Ki shook her head with a groan; it was basically really easy for everyone but her to get Kaiya's good side.

"it's because you're her mother." Link said as they started to walk. Then she realized she had just read Aunt Ki's expression and commented on it. This would have produced a sigh from her mother. She gave her aunt an apologetic smile.

Ki quirked an eyebrow at Link and shook her head, smiling gently.
"You're going to frighten people with that one day, you know," she said, still with half a smile on her face as she held her skipping daughter's hand.

"I already do." Link said with a sigh, thinking about her mother.

"We could dine at the table like normal boring folk or..." James said carrying their played as he led the way away from the kitchen and into the parlor with the large windows that overlooked the gardens. "we could see how your lessons are coming. Please conjure a blanket for us to sit upon."

Emily's face clearly blanched at the suggestion as she glanced from James to the floor.
"Er... Right..." she pursed her lips and winced as she focused and cast, scrunching her eyes shut as she heard something soft hit the floor. She opened her eyes incredulously and saw her own quilt laid out before her, summoned rather than conjoured. She sighed and gave James half an embarassed smile and a sideways glance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ki frowned but allowed the silence to overtake them on their way towards Kiara's school, nothing but the sound of traffic and Kaiya's loud humming to distract them.
"Well your summoning is coming along fine then." James said with a shake of his head. He sat and went on. "what if you're stranded somewhere without teleport capabilities. Without teleport you can't summon. This is an important skill you need to know."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Sing!" Ian insisted as they waited outside the elementary school.
"Not now, Ian. Maybe Mom can sing to you before bed." Link told her brother who pouted back at her. Then he started chanting.
"sing, sing sing" over and over again.

Emily let out a defeated sigh as she flopped down on the quilt.
"I know, Dad," she said, sighing again and reaching to stuff her face so she wouldn't have to talk about it anymore.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ki rolled her eyes and looked to Link in a good natured way, trying to ignore the fact that Kaiya had joined in with Ian's chanting, mostly because Ian looked like he was having fun.
"Voice like your mother, then?" she said with half a smile.
"I nag, because I care" James said mussing Emily's hair.
"Not even close. I can hardly carry a tune, but that doesn't much certain persons." Link said shaking her head as the sixth grade classes started to leave the school in front of them.
"Aunt Ki!" Kiara cried dropping her I'm too cool persona and gave Ki a hug when she saw her and ignoring her own siblings. "Are you coming to dinner? You and Kaiya should totally come to dinner."
Ki grinned and ruffled Kiara's hair, knowing she was too old for it but doing it regardless.
"Afternoon, kiddo. We'll probably come to dinner, don't worry. Saves me cooking," she smiled and glanced at Link, "Besides, your sister pointed out that if I don't your Mom will probably go spare."
In the time that they'd stopped walking, Kaiya had grown bored of standing still and started swinging from Ki's hand, singing loudly to herself since Link hadn't obliged, making words up as she went along.
"Going to Grandma's for diiiiiiiiiiiiiiinner, then we're going on a plaaaaane, then Mama's buying me some preseeeents-"
"No she isn't."
"Presents for Kaaaaaiya!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emily gave a defeated nod, glancing up at James.
"I'll get it eventually.." she said, half exasperated.

"I have total and complete faith in you." James said with a smile.

The little caravan of assorted ages and odd relations proceeded on foot through the suburban town as Link checked her watch. Perhaps she should call just to make sure they were done. She wasn't trying to lie about the fighting, but you shouldn't be five and have to deal with it. So with her hand in her pocket, Link typed out a quick message.
'OMW w/ guests' and then hit send.
A part of her wished Aunt Ki would notice the increased fighting and the emotional break downs. The other part wished everything would be boring and normal tonight. She didn't dare look at her as they walked, because she knew Aunt Ki could read her almost as well as she could read her.
The three story house (if you included the garret) seemed quiet from the outside and the window had already been replaced. Those were hopeful signs.

By this point, Kaiya was on Ki's back, keeping quiet attempting to "style" Ki's short hair that had been quite unceremoniously torn loose from its usual concealing points by the toddler-turned-hairdresser, ears free as she looked at the house, frowning slightly. The windows were never that clean.
She gave Link a sideways look, before lowering Kaiya to the floor. Kaiya needed no further encouragement and charged up to the door, swinging the letterbox open and shouting through it at the top of her voice.
"GRAAAAANDMA!"

Jade was quick to answer the door and sweep her granddaughter it to her arms. Her hair was tucked into a neat braid and her smile was full of youth. But time was catching up with the 47 year old heroine. Her flaming ready hair had started to fade becoming lighter, with a hint more orange and a few gray fly away strands. There were a few more lines on her face too, but age never seemed to bother her. In fact, while holding Kaiya on her hip she beamed at all of them. Ian came running up and hugged jade around the legs.
"Welcome home, my darlings." she said ruffling Ian's hair and giving Kaiya a kiss on the forehead. Ian led the way back into the house, Jade holding Kaiya and Kiara followed. Link could feel Aunt Ki's eyes on her, but she walked determinedly to the door impressed with her Mother's acting abilities.
