Common Japanese Phrases! (as stolen from Tsukino Neko) (and then edited by Angel to make them in a more easy-to-use order ;D)
Suffixes and Family Names
-san = suffix after surname/family name of most of the people you speak to; anyone that you are close to, the phrases below are used.
-kun = suffix after first name for a boy or a close male friend. -chan = suffix after first name for a girl or a close female friend. Mothers and fathers would use this to refer to their children, but never children to refer to elders. Teachers in Primary schools may use these, but in what is considered to be "polite" conversations in any formal relationship, -san would be used.
-sama = someone of a very respected level; for example, a doctor, a boss or a lawyer. Teachers, however, have their own suffix; -sensei = suffix after surname of a teacher. -hime = suffix after the surname of a Princess. -ouiji = suffix after the surname of a Prince.
