Happy Mardi Gras to everybody!
Thats right today is Mardi Gras. For those people who don't speak French the translation is Fat Tuesday.
Why Fat Tuesday? Well thats because we all get fat binging on whatever we are giving up for Lint, since Ash Wednesday is tomorrow. Whether it be chocolate, drinking, or smoking (or any other bad habit you have) you get your fill on Mardi Gras and then at midnight the party is over and Lint starts. Honest truth, New Orleans at Midnight will shut down. The cops will do a sweep of the French Quarter and tell everyone to go home. Of course they have been partying the whole month before lol.
Now that is the technical answer. Most people just use it as an excuse to party. Me being from New Orleans, its in my blood. Halloween and Mardi Gras are my two favorite holidays.
For fun I have some trivia for everybody. So put on your beads, flip on that zydeco, and get yourself a piece of King Cake cause its Mardi Gras!
1. In New Orleans, Do you have to go to school or work on Mardi Gras?
2. What is a doubloon and how do you catch it?
3. What is a Krewe?
4. What do you say to get beads at a parade?
5. What are the colors of Mardi Gras?
6. What do the colors stand for?
7. What goes inside the King Cake?
8. What is a "throw"?
9. What famous dance is danced at Mardi Gras?
10. Name at least 2 Mardi Gras Krewes.
I will post answers tomorrow. you can post your guesses here if you like or write them down and check later. But please post your score. No wikipedia guys or any other forms of Internet help. (except #10 I know that ones hard)
Once Again, Happy Mardi Gras!
