"We'll sail at sunset." James told Angel as she reemerged. "I hope that is soon enough for your liking."
-----------------------
As promised, Jack returned to his ship in time to eat with whoever wasn't piss drunk on shore, which was usually just his daughter. He had procured a few treats for everyone and he patted his bag with a satisfied smirk.

Angel smiled a thin smile, shaking her head.
"I can't control the tides, Mr. Blackwell. I'm happy to go at their pace. Now," she said, with added enthusiasm in her voice, "Is there anything I can help with?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jack was greeted first by Salty, then by Cordy and Mr. Biscuit who in their involved chasing - and one could hardly tell who was the more excited - almost ran straight into him.
Cordy beamed up at him, cheeks red from running in the extreme sun, dropping to lie on the deck with an exhausted sigh; at which point she was set upon by both of the pets that had been accompanying her. Being on the floor always Cordy, or an unsuspecting drunk crewmember, fair game.
Jack grinned and tossed Cordy an orange. Then he pulled out a bone he had gotten from a butcher that was tossing them out and gave it to Salty. He looked at the ferret. His least favorite of his daughter's acquisitions and begrudgingly pulled out a small box that squeaking. He rolled his eyes as Calypso scampered over and tossed her a fish. "You can feed him that." He said hand Cordy the box. The bag with other various treats for the others was set next to her as well.
"Stayed out of trouble?" He asked grinning, Hoping she said no.
Cordy grinned back, not moving from where she was lay flat on her back as she looked up at him.
"Depends whatcha mean by trouble, don't it?"
She ran a long fingernail heavily across the skin of the orange, beginning to peel it as the ferret, who had noticed the squeaking box, began to pester her all the more.
The Spirit sailed through the night and by dawn Puerto Rico was in their sights. James had stood on the aft deck next to helmsman through the night. He was contemplating his current job and client. It would prove interesting to watch. The only outcome that mattered to him was that he upheld his side of the bargain. Past that, the blonde brooding Captain couldn't care less.
----------------
Jack rose with the sun. A habit he had picked up from a memory. And despite the pain he had felt years ago, he could confidently say, he was a happy man. The sea, his beautiful scoundrel of a daughter, a loyal vicious crew, and some how a miniature farm on board. Mr. Simmons yawned when Jack snapped his fingers, but climbed up his arm anyway. Out on deck, he grinned in to the breeze.
He had actually slept in his own bed that night and not on shore. Jack had worried that Cordy would see him, knowing she had a habit of sleeping out in deck when she could.
A restless, sleepless Angel found her way up onto deck when the sun was edging up, biting lip as her eyes traced the outline of Puerto Rico on the coast, her heart pounding as she did. She drew in her lips taking a deep breath, and then glanced back towards the dark captain, giving him half a smile.
"Your ship makes good time, Captain," she called, tipping her head to him in approval.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cordy yawned and stretched on deck, arching her back, the slinky ferret burrowing under the arch as if she were a play course as she did. She reached across and ruffled Salty's ears, hearing her father's boots on deck and feeling Salty's tail swat against her legs at the sight of him.
She rolled over onto her stomach, careful not to crush Mr. Biscuit, and propped her head up to look at her father.
"Island won't be awake yet," she commented idly, examining her father.

"Aye," Jack agreed looking out across the coast, but feeling out for an ulterior motive. "And what is that cunning little mind of yours planning on such a quiet morning?" A smile in his voice.
--------------------------
"Thank you." James said with a nod. "You should know, my men will not fight to gain your ship, only to defend my own. As I have engaged myself in to your employ, I shall help where I deem it necessary or appropriate. Does this suit your needs?"

Angel nodded.
"It meets my expectations, at least. I hope they don't have to do much defense of your ship, I would be greatly discouraged by any damage to mine."
She flashed James a grin, before fixing her eyes on the distant island that was making her breathing erratic and trying to think calming thoughts, to distract herself from the looming destiny of the horizon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cordy pushed herself up into a sitting position, yawning and looking at Jack with a twinkle in her eye.
"I'm not sure. Swim before 'sun warms the water up? Walk down the beach wi' no ideal apart from the sand in me toes?" she said, her grin widening. She was sure that Jack knew as well as she did that the front beach on Puerto Rican shores was a nesting ground, in season, and likely with every inch covered in turtle eggs. She wasn't to be trusted with eggs; mostly because she was under the impression that the ship's deck was a perfectly safe and reliable incubator.
"And here I thought I was raisin' a pirate not a zoo keeper." Jack laughed. "You will not be stealing anythings young. Abandoned, yes. Stealing a mother's eggs is worse than piracy." He shook his head. "A quick swim and then we are getting you some new breeches and boots. But first a hug, before the crew wakes and thinks I won't hang then by their toes for insubordination. Captain's orders."
Cordy grinned before propelling herself to her feet and throwing herself at her father, wrapping her arms around his waist. Whilst being away from the motion of the sea and the wide open sky left her itching for adventure, she enjoyed the relative peace and time she was able to get with her father when the men had the option of shore leave, when there was no one on night-shift and everything seemed more relaxed. Cordy liked the idea of living a relaxed lifestyle.
"How long do we have to be in town for?"
"I promised the men another day. But like you, I am always to be back on open water. Maybe they won't try to kill me in my sleep if when leave with this evenings tide. What do you think?" Jack asked enjoying her hug.
Cordy smiled and nodded.
"The air is too spicy here. Doesn't smell of salt like it should."
She nodded as if to confirm her point and unwound herself from around her father, instead crouching to give her attention to Salty.
"Can we take Salty with us when we go into town?"
This she asked as she began to untie the knot that fixed Salty's bandana to him.
"I wouldn't dare leave the crew to his mercy." Jack laughed only slightly jealous of the dog getting his daughter's attention. Hell, what would he do when she focused that energy on boys? Kill them. He was a pirate. It's what he did. "Get a move on now, ye scurvy brat." No conviction in his voice.
Cordy's eyes flashed with mischief as she pushed herself to her feet. She ran to the side of the boat and was in the rigging in seconds, Salty following with none of Cordy's grace as she turned and gave her father a winning smile and a wink before dropping herself off the boat backwards again, landing with a gentle splash that was shortly followed by the much heavier splash of Salty landing in the sea and Cordy laughing as the dog splashed her. Such was their shore leave.
Jack stripped off his coat, shirt, boots and hat. Using his left hand, he pulled himself on to the railing by way of the rigging. He dived straight into the sea and splashing Cordy and salty as he hit the water.
Fifteen years ago, Jack had been an incredibly strong swimmer. Now, he could still use his right arm, but not with the force or strength that he once had. There was a nasty scar along his right shoulder. The injury he had received there, made it's only use steering in the water and and firing his pistol. He bobbed up and flashed Cordy a smile.
