"But Aunt Phoebe said-"
"Emily Jade Prince," started the response that cut her off, so dangerously low that Emily's face blanched and she drew backwards from her father's writing desk, "Your aunts are, thank the Gods, not my children and as such I have no control over their actions. You, however..."
James raised an eyebrow, and not in the gently humorous way that Emily had grown used to, but in a dangerous way that almost scared her, had she not been genetically predisposed to rebellion. She frowned, a deep teenage frown that belied her mere 15 years.
"You can't just go gallivanting out across the world. You're still a child, Emily!"
James reeled his temper in and sighed as Ariana appeared silently in the doorway to James's library, gently rocking a baby in her arms, maternal radiance only serving to enhance her soft, gentle aura. She smiled at them both and crossed the room, placing the newborn in James's arms and distracting him from the previous conversation as he cooed as his baby daughter.
Emily's temper flared. She was being ignored! The stupid baby wasn't even awake and she commanded more attention than Emily did. It was infuriating. And it hurt. And Emily only knew one way to deal with feeling hurt.
Shaking, she clenched her fists and scowled.
"Fine. I can see you're busy with your REAL daughter." she practically spat before running from the room, through the library and out into the garden, angry tears streaming down her face as her auburn hair ran out behind her.

Ariana gave her husband a reproachful look and swept out of the room after Emily before he could mess upEven more. She wished Emily had timed her request a little better or had come to her first. Then they might have avoided this whole mess with hurt feelings and heated words. It was to be expected now that Emily was smack in the middle of her teens and being threatened with a new child. One that James was clearly crazy about, but had been that way after Emily's birth too. Problem was that even with the boys, Emily had always been daddy's little princess.
'Of all the weeks,' Ariana thought trying to figure out where the niece she had raised as a daughter had gone.

She had been at the palace maybe an hour and Link was already intrenched in serious game of capture the flag with the three little Elven princes. Upon their arrival, her father had been commandeered by her Great Aunt Genny and before she could even ask about Emily, the princes were on her like a pack of wolves. Never wanting to disappoint, Link, of course, had agreed to lead the royal warriors against some of the other nobles children.
Even at fourteen, Link had a quick mind for battle strategy and though cunning in a fight, she was always honorable and truthful. Unlike, most girls in the palace, elves and faeries alike, Link never wore a dress. She found them unpractical and pointless. They weren't functional and were more of a hindrance than anything in a fight. Which was what Link was best at since she had been learning from her father since the time she could walk.
Hiding amongst the hedges of the royal gardens, Link was regrouping her forces. There had been a surprise attack and one of the princes and been captured. What the Noble side didn't know was that it had been apart of their plan to figure out where they had hidden the flag.

Emily tore through the garden in her heavy-footed way, not really caring where she was blundering to, still streaming with angry tears as they spilt onto the top of her dress, pulled up and tucked at the front so she had the freedom of not walking around in a heavy skirt. Or, as was currently appropriate, running.
She didn't watch where she was going, or really pay much attention to the environment around her at all, so it should've been no surprise to her at all when she suddenly tripped and fell, landing with a startled cry, heavy on the garden path.
Sniffling heavily to herself and wiping her tears away roughly with the back of one hand, she glanced up to see her own little brother, sullen, surrounded by the noble's sons, all of whom looked smug, Tylir stood on a bench, lauding over them.
If Emily was any more self-aware, she would've pitied them at that moment, suddenly in the face of her unbridled rage, becoming the scapegoats for her anger at her father. Her eyes fixed on Tylir as she pushed herself to her feet, fire burning in them.
"I'll bet you Auron that I can make you yield." she half hissed, sniffing again, unblinking and shifting her stance to that of a fighter. Auron, recognising the look on her face, looked a little uneasy and moved out of her line of sight.

Tylir smirked at the princess as he took in her stance. He jumped down from the bench and circled her as he sized her up. Working in the palace since he was young, Tylir had watched her grow up and had seen her training. Despite wearing a dress, he knew that she had been trained by the King himself, nothing to be taken lightly. The noble children, which included a mix of boys and girls, gave Tylir room while keeping an eye on Auron.
"I didn't think you were playing this round, Princess." Tylir said, his eyebrow arched in question. "Being mid game, you shouldn't be allowed to join per the rules you helped write."

Ian did not look pleased when he entered the King's study. His mind was still on the conversation owing Genny. He was so distracted, that he didn't notice that his best friend was just as distracted, even of he held the newest addition in his arms.
"James," Ian said as he sank into a leather chair. The only response came from the little half-elf in James' arms. "James!" he said sharply as Arina began to cry.
"huh?" James looked up in surprise. Then he looked at his daughter and began to rock her. "hush, Arina. It's alright, Daddy's here."
"Teenager trouble?" the warrior asked knowingly. James gave his friend a don't ask look.
"And what would you know about trouble? Link is a piece of cake, especially since you only have one." James said as Arina quieted down.

Without responding to Tylir's well formed points or the smug look on his face, Emily shifted her feet in the garden ground and then growled, launching herself at him.

Tylir made an 'oof' sound as he landed on the ground. But he was quick to hold off the princess's hands, by grabbing her wrists and holding them away from himself. He smiled again.
"but given the circumstances. I think we can make an exception."

Emily growled and shifted all of her weight to one side, landing on the ground rather than on top of Tylir and using the new leverage to jerk one of her knees upwards towards Tylir's stomach.

Tylir grunted again. He wasn't about to properly scrapple with the princess. She was the princess. But he could defend himself. So, he used his own weight to roll over on top of Emily and pin her to the ground as he straddled her. Grinning, he said,
"I guess this means we capture you too."

Emily growled.
"Or, we use dirty-underhand-tactic number two, more commonly known as expose-Tylir's-base," she spoke, quickly and with a determined look, before taking a deep breath and shrieking at the top of her lungs,
"LIIIIIIINK!"

Link looked at the two princes and gave them a devilish smile.
"Okay, men, here's the plan. You two go save your sister and create the biggest commotion you possibly can. Keep everybody's eyes on you. Get Auron to help. They'll probably only have one guard at their flag but it will be close to their base so they can get help. I will take out the guard and get the flag, since I can be the quietest." The princes nodded and they headed off in the most direct path to Emily's scream. Link took another path with great certainty that they would win the day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Do you really think the daughter of greatest warrior is simply going rush into an enemy camp?" Tylir asked the princess beneath him. He looked up at his best player, a young dark haired elf. "Karine, double the guard on the flag. If I know Link, she'll be alone." Karine held up her skirts and hurried off with another boy.
That was when the princes rushed in.
Ariana followed the chaos she could hear in the gardens with a shake of her head.
In the ensuing commotion, Emily managed to scrabble out from underneath Tylir. Instead of leaping up to fight like she wanted to, she stayed low to the ground, nodding to Auron to join in the Princes' chaos as she rolled under a hedge. Emerging on the other side with a dirty and slightly torn dress and leaves in her hair, she quickly took off in the direction she had seen Karine go.
Link had been right not to far off their stood the red flag that the children had made. The only one in sight was the son of the one of the council members that Uncle James actually liked. The flag was surround by three sides of hedge and Dimitri blocking the only way in.
She moved like a ninja making sure to stay out of sight. Dimitri clearly looked nervous as the din from his team got louder. But Tylir had specifically told him not to leave his post. No matter what.
Karine ran as fast as she could straight for Dimitri. She only hoped she could reach him in time.
Emily ran on the balls of her feet, hoping not to alert Karine to her presence as she saw the end of her dark hair flick around a corner and she followed far enough back to keep herself unknown. As she saw the flag in the distance, she stopped and rolled under another hedge, now running on the outskirts of the path that Karine was taking.
"They're coming," Karine shouted just as Link reached the back hedge and the only thing that separated her and victory was a plant. Magick wasn't allowed during the game. So she backed up as far as she could and ran, jumping at the last possible second.
Link landed neatly on the other side the flag now in her hand. Problem was now she had to get back to her base without being caught by the two enemies now staring straight at her.
"Link!"
Emily stuck her hand over the hedge for the flag, knowing she at least had more of a way out than Link did with Karine and Dimitri staring her down.
