Erica jumped and twitched at the sudden noise, pulling her hands away from the keyboard and tucking them away into the ball of her small body.
"Technically we have discussed the 1426 other times that I have been caught interfacing with the mainframe of the ship's computing systems."
She spoke in a fast, skittish voice, almost too quiet to hear, and shaking to the pace of her twitches, though clearly she was a competent and aware speaker.

Rogers couldn't help but smile. Stepping away from the unit, he approached her and knelt down in front of her. "Come on, let's see what you're doing this time huh?" He made a grab for the computer, turned it to face him and stopped. On the screen was Nathaniel's face.
He recognised the image from the video footage he'd seen earlier that day. He looked at the young girl in front of him and wished that perhaps she didn't understand what was happening, didn't find anything else to do with the mission.
A lump formed in his throat at the thought. 'Fuck. She knows.'

"How old is the message?" Erica spoke again, the same skittish voice, continuing to twitch and looking up at Rogers through her jagged and uneven tawny fringe.

Inside his mind, he sighed. The way he saw it, he had three options, tell the truth, lie, or deny knowing anything about it. Another sigh rattled in his brain. She'd find out he knew about it. "This morning."

"I know. I was testing you."
Erica leant forward and typed rapidly, and the terminal locked in a process which would normally take several minutes. She looked up at Rogers again, tilting her head to the side.

He looked from the screen to her and glared. "Erica, what did you just do? Are we gonna need to put you back?"

Erica twitched violently and shook her head from side to side rapidly, causing her haphazard hair to fly around.
"I was reissuing the security protocol commands whilst simultaneously disabling the network control and ending the connection to your database via a hexcode which prevents any further security lapses via a defensive mechanism..."
If anything she was speaking faster and quieter than before, but in a more high pitched voice, with wider eyes.

Rogers laid a hand on her shoulder and squeezed it gently to stop her chattering away. "Erica, Erica. Not all of us understand what you're talking about. In layman's terms, what did you do?"

"I logged out," she spoke, slowly and clearly, still jittering slightly before taking a deep breath.
"You have to take me with you."

His eyebrows shot up. "Excuse me?" He pulled the computer away from her hands, just to ensure she didn't decide to do anything again. He didn't trust her to be left to her own devices. "Why would I take you to Earth?"

Dr. Evans made her way back to the medical bay and to the supply stores. She began to piece together her kit, including a pack to wear for quick moves. Once she was positive everything was in order, Sam would head back to the ranges to practice. She would prove the dedication she had promised.

"Because I'm useful," Erica stuttered, gazing up at him, "And I need to know things about earth. And I'd remember everything we saw. And I have the power to spread panic amongst the civilians." Erica was babbling again, but she fixed her eyes on Rogers as she spoke.

Rogers sighed and stood to his feet, a hand held out to her. "Erica, come here." Having someone who was tech savvy would always be useful, but Erica was fifteen. A kid. He couldn't take a kid with him right?

Erica took Rogers hand and pulled herself up. She was much smaller than him, standing at no more than five feet, and she was lithe and slight; even her hands were tiny when placed in Rogers'. Now she was stood, it was clear that she cared little for her appearance: she wore an oversized civilian t-shirt which fell almost to her knees, and close cut trousers which she had folded up to her calves. her feet were bare and dusty from her skittering around.

Rogers eyed Erica's clothing choice and sighed. Shaking his head, he tugged her along. "Come on, I'm sure Samantha will have a spare set of clothes that will fit you better. Is there nothing you could be doing?"
