"I guess it's this or the woods." Kayleh said as she looked at the inn. She pushed open the worn wooden door and it creaked on hinges soon to snap. The inside wasn't much better Kayleh noted. But at least it didn't have the thugs from the night before. Kayleh only hoped there would be enough water available to fill a basin so she could clean herself of the days activities.

Skygge frowned as he followed the girl in. The patrons, the few around, were all aged, though it looked to be more from stress than actual age. Just what kind of troubles have these villagers faced? One of the women, one behind the counter, stared at him for a bit before turning away. "We would like a room," Skygge politely stated as he faced her. The woman just nodded and beckoned over her husband to show the way. "You go on ahead," he said to Kayleh. "I have something I want to check first."

Kayleh frowned but nodded before following the woman upstairs. As they climbed the stairs, Kayleh silently wondered if the steps could bear their weight. Their room looked pitiful, but at least there was a basin and pitcher, even if they were chipped and faded. Once alone, Kayleh poured the ice covered water into the bowl and shivered as she began to use it to clean herself.

Skumring stood on the roof of his castle, overlooking his kingdom. In particular, he looked over the marshes. From what he was told, that was where Skygge was last seen. That was five years ago though. With the blow he delivered, it was likely his son was dead...or so said his healers. Without any form of legitimate healing, be it natural or magical, Skygge would surely die. They also said there was no way for him to have gotten beyond the marshes.
If this is so, then where is the body? Skumring had his people scour the marshes in search of Skygge. Despite it being the last place he was seen, despite being told he couldn't have gone far, his son's body was never found. Five years, and it still hasn't. Skumring couldn't shake the feeling that Skygge was still alive.
Skumring frowned as he looked off into the distance. He could just barely see the outline of something in the distance. Whatever it was, it was traveling directly towards the castle. The closer it got, the more Skumring started to recognize it. A bird, very familiar at that. Eliz. So the bastard is still alive.
The bird stopped at the edge of the roof. As it did, a series of magical writing appeared before him. A smile slowly started to form as Skumring read it. So, Skygge is alive after all. Good work, Eliz. Surely you're doing this just to get back into my graces, but good work indeed. Keep following him, as you said you've been. With that, Skumring turned to find one of his wizards, summoning the bird to follow him as he did so.

Skygge looked around as he once again wandered the village. So battered, everything. Even the people looked worn. He couldn't find one person that remotely looked like he, or she, could handle a sword. After a while of walking around, Skygge had found their guide.
"You again," the guide had said. "Sorry, but that inn is the best we have to offer."
"No, that's not it. I was wondering if you could tell me more about the monster attacks."
The guide frowned. "What more do you want to know? They attack, we suffer from it. That's it. Everyone that was remotely capable of fighting them off died in their attacks."
Skygge found himself frowning as well. "What kind of monsters are they?"
"I don't know. They were ugly, that's for sure, animal like. They kind of looked like hyenas in the face, but on two legs."
"I see...I think I know the kind. Well, there's only one hyena like creature I know of that walks on two legs. I'll need to see them for myself, but if they're what I think they are, then they should stop if you kill the leader."
"Kill the leader? You really think you can do that?"
"Yes." With that, Skygge turned and headed back to the inn. "I'll just need to make sure I face it one on one," he said to himself.

Kayleh, once she was clean and changed, headed back downstairs for food. The result was a sad bowl of slop. As she stomached it down, Kayleh worried about Skygge. She wanted to clean and re-bandage his wound. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that he could take care of himself, but what if his injury got worse? They had been walking all afternoon, which certainly wouldn't help him heal. Plus Pan was exploring, so she was alone. maybe that was the real problem. She was lonely.

Skygge surveyed the area as he made his way back to the inn. There wasn't much to see, everything being run down like it was. There didn't seem to even be much he could work with in terms of luring the creature out. It seemed he'd have to rely on the able bodied men, the few that there were. None of them looked much up to the task. Perhaps the ones that could were lost in the first skirmishes, leaving only feeble looking behind. Still, he supposed they'd have to do.
Hunger hit Skygge as he walked into the inn. He quickly opted to find the kitchen, or nearest thing to it. A bowl of...something was given to him. Skygge wasn't entirely sure it was edible. Oh well, he figured it'd do. As he left, he caught a glimpse of Kayleh sitting alone. "Better than nothing, I suppose," Skygge said to her as he took a seat.

"Perhaps." Kayleh said with a small smile. "Do you think breakfast will be any better?"

((Would love to get this up and running again(if I can remember the story behind Nowe)... but since I'm now alone, is there anywhere I could be to meet up with you guys, I think Nowe is ahead of you.))

"I would hope so." Skygge was quiet as he ate, mind on what he had learned today. "How familiar are you with the different kinds of creatures that fill our world?" he asked after a while, eyes on Kayleh. "Beyond the common ones of deer and the like."
OOC: We can speed through this bit rather quickly and move it along and catch up with Nowe afterwards. As for a place, I am open to suggestions.
