"I'm so tired," she said, her voice cracking slightly, looking down at her hands, clenched so tightly her knuckles were white.

"You should get some sleep then." Jade said getting up. "Let me help you to bed. The boys won't be back in a while and you'll feel better after some rest."

"Can we..." she paused, her voice cracked again, hearing the strain in it and wincing, "Can we watch something? The one- the one with the toys... The cowboy, and the astronaut..."
She didn't even know if she was making sense. And she knew she wouldn't understand the film now, but the images reminded her of something recent, but clean, happy, and she needed that if she were to sleep. Would Jade understand? Cassy's eyes practically begged her to.

"Sure, of course." Jade said a mix of surprise and confusion in her voice. She went over to take the movie out of the box, but frowned when she found it empty. When she found it in the machine, the puzzle began to make sense. The tiniest of sobs hitched in her throat at the realization that Auron had most recently watched it with the "other" woman in his life. She forced herself to press play but quickly retreated to the kitchen as the film started.

Cassy, oblivious to the emotionally complex nature of Jade's retreat, curled tighter into a ball and watched as the film danced to life, allowing the toy heroes to give her nicer memories. It had barely been on for ten minutes when she was sound asleep, wrapped around herself.

Jade sank down to the kitchen floor and began to cry, wishing for the dawn to come.

The dawn did come, long after the film finished rolling and sat with the fuzzy white screen, whilst Cassy slept haphazardly, curled into a ball, occasionally flinching though her sleep was otherwise calm.
She awoke slowly, without the suddenness she expected, opening her eyes blearily and glancing around, gauging where she was?
"Auron?" she said in a small voice, almost the opposite of Cassy's usual brashness, not moving from her ball.

Jade scrambled off the floor, where she had fallen asleep.
"He'll be back soon." She promised, though she had no idea when. Jade crouched next to the sofa to be at Cassy's level.

Cassy locked eyes with Jade, the disappointment and raw fear at still not having Auron to comfort her visible in her expression.
"Do you know when?" she asked, hating her own voice for how small and pathetic it was.

Jade shook her head.
"I'm sorry. I wish I did." She said with a sigh. Jade suddenly frowned as she noticed Cassy's necklace. How long had Auron been seeing her? She wondered a bit to viciously and hoped it didn't show on her face.

In the meantime, James and Auron waited at the only place they could think of that would mean anything to Jade and the man who ruined her life. They had come up with a plan. Now it just needed to work.
"Luke" stepped out of the shadows he had created. He tilted his head and then clicked his tongue in a tutting noise.
"Hard to negotiate when you didn't bring anything I want." He said to them.
"That's not him." James said frowning. Who was this man, who knew Jade's secret?
"I don't care who he is. Where is my sister? What have you done with her?" Auron shouted.
"Nothing, yet." Luke said. "But now that you've shown up empty handed, she'll die. And then we'll try this all again with your little girlfriend."
